Page 37 of Claiming Her Alpha

Kendra couldn’t hold back a grin as she squared off with her brother. The command had no effect on her. “No.”

Leaning down, Kendra gently took the woman’s hands in hers and helped her off the ground. Kendra recognized her as the woman she’d thrown out of Kent’s bed when they’d visited the Silverliners.

“Kendra, get lost,” Kent commanded again.

Her grin only deepened, and she turned her attention back to him. “Your commands don’t work on me.”

His eyes darkened, the shadow of his wolf coming through. “Fuck. Off.”

Kendra couldn’t help but laugh as her wolf also slowly surfaced. “I’m not yours to command, Kent. You’re not worthy of me nor my wolf submitting to you. Now stop trying to belittle me and tell me why she’s here.” Her last sentence was a command.

Kent’s eyes widened as her words settled with him. Then, they turned angry as he tried to fight the words that her command pressed out of his mouth. “She’s pregnant and wants me to take care of her.”

Kendra nodded and turned her attention to blonde once again. “What is your name?”

“Jenevea.”

“Jenevea, I know you wouldn’t be here if you didn’t already know but is it true?”

“Yes,” she whispered, her gaze lowered to the ground in shame.

“And your pack has abandoned you because of it?”

“Yes.”

Kendra turned her attention back to Kent, who was still trying to wrap his head around what was happening. “How dare you!”

“How do I know it’s even mine?”

“So a woman comes to you for help and you’d rather turn her away than own your mistake? You’re even worse than I thought–you’re a spineless coward.”

He opened his mouth, but Kendra silenced him.

“Don’t say another word. Not until Jenevea gets a chance to explain herself before the alpha.”

Before she could continue, Avery walked out of the woods. “I believe Kendra has made a good point. Go see your father. He is expecting you.” Then he turned to Kendra and Jenevea. “How about I drive you two and Lina back to the village?”

Kendra nodded and turned her back to Kent, gently guiding Jenevea along with her. She held open the door behind the driver’s seat and helped Jenevea inside.

“Lina, this is Jenevea. Jenevea, this is Lina.”

They both gave each other a shy smile before Kendra quietly closed the door and walked around the truck. Avery started the engine just as Kendra sat down and closed the door. It was a quiet ride to the village, where Mike was waiting for them at the garage. With worried eyes he helped Lina out of the truck and pulled her into his arms.

“I’m fine, Mike,” Lina said, an embarrassed blush creeping up her neck.

Kendra and Mike exchanged a quick glance. ‘They know about my wolf. I’ll explain later.’

‘Okay.’ To Lina he said, “Let’s get you home so you can rest.”

Avery led Jenevea by his side, Kendra following close behind. Once inside, she paused, unsure if she should also follow them into the office before Avery led her through the door.

Avery sat Jenevea on one of the chairs in front of the desk while Kent stood to the side, his eyes fuming, and his arms crossed over his chest. Her father sat behind the desk and though his eyes were softly on Jenevea, she could feel his anger vibrating in the air. She stood to the side, unsure of what to do now that she’d let the cat–well, wolf–out of the bag.

“Beta Avery has told me you came here seeking refuge. Why is that?” her father asked in a loving, paternal tone.

“Alpha Finlay has sent me away because I’m pregnant,” she sniffed and Avery handed over a box of tissues.

“And you believe my son is the father of your child?”
