That was clear.
Her boss had succumbed to the pressure of a rich and powerful man, and despite her resignation yesterday, he’d opted to hand Genesis her walking papers.
She was no longer a cop.
“Bad?” Bishop asked, sympathizing with her. They had been so damn close.
She laughed.
“Let’s just say thank God I have a job as backup because he told me I was a disgrace to the department, a failure, and terminated immediately.”
Tori hugged her.
“We’ll take you any day of the week,” she said. “You’re a good cop. You were on the cusp of this.”
She shrugged.
“Now what?” she asked. “Do we get my dog and leave Dodge? I’ve got nothing left here. I’ve been warned not to go after him.”
Tori shook her head.
“You’ve been warned, but we haven’t,” she said, much to no one’s surprise.
Julian just laughed.
“Here we go. We’re going to need a lawyer. Lucian, get to the hotel and get ready to bail our asses out. AGAIN.”
Tori grinned.
“This is where I become a cop’s worst nightmare. I’m going to ride roughshod over the police captain, and we’re solving this case. Lucian, after you ignore my husband and his request for bail, can you make some waves in the media.”
He fixed his tie.
“I can do an interview. It seems they fired my client for sketchy reasons. I’m about to make a state supreme court judge squirm.”
Genesis was confused.
“I’m not your client.”
He patted her on the back.
“Bishop and Tori adopted you. You’re a Littlemoon now, and we protect family. Julian, would you like to help? I’ll get Ridge to meet us outside. You’re going to be very upset that some of your employees were locked up by this precinct. If they are off the case, the lawsuit is back on.”
Julian shrugged.
“What the hell. When I break the law, it makes my wife wild.”
She snorted and slapped him on the ass.
“I do love when you make waves.”
Bishop laughed.
“Oh, boy. Frick and Frack are about to do a media junket. That captain is about to hurt. He’s about to take it up the ass on this one.”
Yes, Joe Ivy was.
When Tori’s phone chimed, she pulled it from her pocket and read over it.
