They needed to work through a few things to make sure they could get an interview with Cyrus Lawley.
They had plenty to pull him in, but what they needed was something more substantial.
Basically, they needed more proof so that they could arrest him.
That was the bottom line.
The DA was going to have to pull that trigger, put on his big boy panties, and stand up to the man’s father-in-law.
This guy had to be doing the killing.
There was just no other explainable answer for his side chicks disappearing and turning up dead or missing—like his wife.
“Where is Jessamy then?” Tori asked. “We’ve found four of his mistresses, but not his wife.”
Genesis sat there.
“Well, here’s what’s running in my head. I’m betting he didn’t dump her in the same spot. If I was married to a rich trust-fund baby, and I wanted to inherit it all, I’d make that person go poof, and then in a year, have her declared dead. No body means no proof that he had something to do with it. Everyone can speculate, but if we can’t prove it…”
Tori was still bothered by all of this.
It was too easy.
This guy wasn’t that bright. He was an ambulance-chasing glory hound.
“Maybe we’ll get lucky, and she’ll turn up,” Tori said. “Then, I can ask her what happened.”
Before Genesis could say anything else, there was banging on her door.
Tori jumped up and headed there.
“What?” she asked when she opened it and saw Bishop standing there.
“Lucian and Ridge just came out of the static. They said someone is dying right now! We have to get to the park and where the women were dumped!”
Tori gasped.
“Oh, we might catch him in the act!”
She pulled on her boots, and they ran out of there. Once in the car, Tori saw the time.
“Oh, shit!” she admitted. “We’re supposed to be meeting Hailey in five minutes to go dress shopping!”
Genesis was behind the wheel, and she was trying to get to the park as quickly as possible.
“We’ll have to call her,” Bishop said, bracing her hand on the dashboard as the detective drove it like she stole it.
She had lights and sirens on in her detective vehicle.
The radio came to life.
“BETHANY. CAN. GO. DRESS. SHOPPING. SHE. IS. WILLING. TO…”
Tori cut him off.
“No! Go to the lake where the bodies were dumped! Get to the park and see if you can find the woman being killed! She can stop it! You can only photocopy your invisible face!”
“ONE. TIME. AND. YOU. NEVER. LET. ME. FORGET. IT!”
