It was.
“Do we have a deal?”
They did.
“YES.”
When Hailey came back to the table, she was smiling.
“I have a surprise for you,” she said. “She’s bringing it. It only seems fair since you planned a spectacular surprise for me.”
He held her hand. Bodhi wasn’t sure what the surprise would be.
When he saw Jennie coming back, he smiled.
“Is that more cake?” he asked.
She nodded.
“Yep.”
When it was put down in front of them, Bodhi recognized it.
“I picked. I want strawberry for our wedding. I know it’s not a winter wonderland flavor, but it’s a part of us. This is the first cake we had together for your birthday.”
He kissed her on the tip of the nose.
“I love you,” he admitted.
She touched his cheek.
“I love you too, Bo. Now, let’s try it.”
She picked up the fork and fed him some, and he grinned.
“I think it’s perfect.”
She tried some.
“Yep. This is it, Jennie. We’re having this cake. I want lots of strawberries in it. My husband-to-be is a big fan.”
She smiled.
“I’ll go do the paperwork for the pastry chefs. Enjoy the rest of the cake.”
As she headed off, they did just that. Between each bite, they stole a kiss or two.
When the radio chirped, Hailey sighed.
“No chocolate cake, Jake.”
The dial spun.
“I. WAS. GOING. TO. SAY. THAT. YOU. WERE. RIGHT. STRAWBERRY. LOOKS. BETTER. THAN. THE. CHOCOLATE. GOOD. CHOICE. I. WISH. I. COULD. TASTE. IT.”
She blinked.
“Uh, are you possessed?” she asked.
