He nodded and spun her around. “I was trying to control my emotions. I didn’t want to fall for
you.”
“Because I was too young?”
“That and because I was leaving.” He glanced over at his mom chatting with Kathy at their table.
“I didn’t want you to go through what my mom went through if something happened to me.” Sabrina
leaned her head against his chest. He chuckled. “That didn’t happen that night.”
“Definitely not.”
He tipped her head up and kissed her gently on the lips.
“That did, though,” she said.
He grinned. “After hours of talking.”
“True.”
Things certainly had changed over the last few years. Hell, over the last month. He’d watched her
blossom into a beautiful, confident woman. Yes, there were still times when her fears threatened to
take control, but she didn’t let them. She was such an amazing woman. He was so lucky to have her in
his life.
Sabrina leaned her head against his chest again and listened to his heartbeat as they swayed around
the floor. If the last few years hadn’t happened . . .
But if they hadn’t happened, they would have grown into different people. I wouldn’t have been
able to handle his life as it is now. Things happen for a reason. That’s all over now. Now I can have
my happy ending.
The song ended and another one began. They continued dancing together, his chin resting on the
top of her head and Sabrina sighed.
“I hope that’s a happy sigh,” he said softly.
“A very happy sigh.”
“Good,” he said, kissing the top of her head. “Do you know how happy you’ve made me?”
She looked up at him. “I hope as happy as you’ve made me.”
“I hope so, too.” He grinned. “I never thought I’d see you again after you disappeared. But when
Jayson told me about this new dancer . . .” He smiled. “I was in such a hurry to finish that job and get
home. It seemed to take forever!”
She giggled at his exaggerated expression.
