“You were so stubborn when I first saw you again. So determined to keep yourself from me.” He
clenched his jaw and blinked several times as his eyes watered. Her heart went out to him. “I can’t
say it didn’t hurt, but once Jayson told me what he knew, I understood.” He smiled. “But I can be
stubborn, too, and I wasn’t going to let you go that easily.”
She smiled. “I’m glad you didn’t give up.”
“I know it hasn’t been easy on you, learning about me, my world, but you seem happy with how
things are, right?”
Sabrina nodded. “Nothing’s perfect, but I know I belong with you, Chase.” She hoped he could
see her sincerity in her expression. “You’re right, it hasn’t been easy, but you’ve been honest with me
from the start. You gave me space when I needed it but never gave up on me. I can’t ask for more than
that.”
He beamed at her. “Your feelings haven’t changed?”
She frowned. “Why would they?”
“It’s been a week since you saw the other side of things. Are you sure you want to keep the choice
you made?”
“As much as I enjoyed that night, I love you. I want to be with you. Richard offers me something
to satisfy my body. You make me feel . . . whole. I’m sure you can give me what Richard offers, too.”
She gave him a saucy grin which he returned. “But you give me love. I wouldn’t get that there.” She
reached up and caressed his smooth cheek. “I want to love you and be loved in return.”
Chase sighed. “I’m glad to hear that.” He leaned down and kissed her. “In light of all that, I have a
question to ask you.”
Her brows knit together as he stepped away from her. He glanced at Richard, who nodded, and
then signaled the musicians. The music stopped, and he reached into his jacket and kneeled on one
knee.
Her heart pounded in her chest as he held out a small object. She gasped when she realized it was
a ring. A ring with a huge diamond on it.
“Sabrina Mansfield, I love you with all of my heart. Will you marry me?”
She clasped her hands over her mouth and stared at him with wide eyes. Happy tears filled her
eyes, and she gave him the biggest grin she could. “Yes,” she whispered and then nodded, not sure if
he heard her.
