“I didn’t want to talk to anyone.”
“I know. But he lost a friend too. And his girlfriend turned out to be some sort of spy. He hasn’t
had it easy either.”
Chase wondered how Ethan kept his head on so straight. “You amaze me.”
“What? Why?”
Chase groaned as he sat up and pulled on his shirt. “You’ve been so calm throughout this whole
thing.”
“One of us has to.” Ethan chuckled. “If we both lost it, we’d be in a world of hurt.”
He stood and clapped his hand on Ethan’s shoulder. “I appreciate you. A lot.” He kissed him
gently on the lips. “I’d be lost without you.” A stirring in his lower body made him pause. He’d had
no interest in sex of any kind since Sabrina left, but looking at Ethan, he ached for touch. To have
some sort of comfort to ease the ache in his heart.
Ethan kissed him back. “Let’s talk about that later.”
“Talk about what?”
“That look in your eyes.”
“Can’t hide anything from you, can I?”
“Nope. Go talk to Jayson.”
Chase winced and groaned softly as he made his way downstairs to the living room. How could
he help Sabrina tomorrow if he could barely walk?
He finally made it downstairs and sighed when he saw Jayson sitting on the couch, head hung and
hands clasped together. “Hey, Jay,” he said in a gentle tone.
Jayson looked up. “Hey.”
Chase sat down gingerly on the couch. “How ya doing?”
Jayson shrugged. “Not the best.”
“Rehearsals?”
He nodded. “Ashley’s stepped into Sabrina’s roles.” He pressed his lips together. “Not the same.”
“I know.” He cleared his throat. “I’m sorry I haven’t reached out. I—” He shook his head.
“There’s no good excuse.”
“Yeah.” Jayson chewed his lip. “Any leads on Sabrina?”
“Richard said she’s in DC with Damian now. We’re gonna go tomorrow.”
