Chase’s phone rang again as he and Lance walked back to the house. Richard. “Hello?”
“Damian showed up in DC last night. With Sabrina.”
It took Chase a moment to register the news. “He’s in DC again?” His pace quickened, a plan
forming in his head as he spoke.
“Yes. He’s at his home in DC. Threw a lavish party last night to introduce Sabrina.”
“How did you find out?”
“Really, Chase?” He sounded irritated and Chase realized what a stupid question it was. Of
course he had his sources.
“Sorry. Now what?” Adrenaline rushed through his body and he clenched his fists. He was ready
to face that son of a bitch but stopped himself. He didn’t want to get into trouble again.
“I think we need to go to DC, but be better prepared than you were.”
Chase let out a sigh of relief. They weren’t going to make him stay behind. “When do we leave?”
“Tomorrow morning. I’m going to meet with the other Elders via a video call after we hang up
and then I’ll come over and we’ll discuss plans. Remember, this is a supernatural matter, Chase. Your
typical weapons will be of little use in this battle.”
Chase grimaced but knew it was true. “I understand.”
“I’ll be in touch this afternoon.”
Chase shoved his phone back into his pocket.
“What did he say?” Lance asked.
“Sabrina’s in DC.”
Lance nodded, looking thoughtful. “When do we leave?”
“Tomorrow morning. Richard’s coming over later and we’ll make plans. He’s meeting with the
Elders this morning.”
“We’ll get her back, Chase.”
“We have to.”
Later that afternoon, Ethan walked into the bedroom as Chase dozed on the bed. “Jayson’s here.”
Chase winced at the pain in his ribs as he looked up. “He is?”
“Have you talked to him since you took Lia?”
“Fuck.” Chase fell back and closed his eyes. “Barely.” He shook his head. “I’m a terrible friend.”
“Yeah.” He opened his eyes and glared at Ethan, who shrugged. “I told you to call him.”
