read her. “I . . . Normally I don’t . . .”

Lia pushed open the door and motioned for Sabrina to go first. “Normally?”

Sabrina frowned, her mind spinning as the face of her Master slowly came clearer in her mind.

She gasped and stared at Lia. “I-oh, no!” Damian’s face clearly focused in her mind and she grabbed

the wall. “I have to tell Chase.”

Lia grabbed her arm and pulled her into a stall in the back corner. “You see his face?”

Stunned by the revelation, she wasn’t really focused on the fact that Lia had her arm in a vise-like

grip. She put her hand on Lia’s in her eagerness to share the revelation that she remembered the

identity of her other Master. “I have to tell Chase. He has to know.”

Lia shook her head, terror and determination both written starkly on her face. “No. You’re not

telling anyone.” Lia put her hand on Sabrina’s head and closed her eyes.

Sabrina winced. “No . . .” An explosion of gold blinded her, and she sunk to the ground, clasping

her head in pain.

Chase leaned back and smiled as he listed to Jayson go on and on about Lia. He was thrilled his

friend had found someone great.

He glanced at his watch. Lia and Sabrina had been gone for a while and Chase’s stomach was

starting to turn over. He twisted to look back at the bathrooms and saw Lia emerging, a worried

expression on her face. He stood, the chair nearly tipping over, and hurried across the restaurant.

“Sabrina said she’s not feeling well,” Lia said, her eyes showing concern, but not fear. “I was

going to come get you—”

Relief flooded through him when he realized it must not be anything serious. He put his hand on

the door, ready to enter and get her, when something inside told him to stop. Eyes all around the room

were watching him as he prepared to barge into the women’s restroom like an animal. He removed

his hand. “Can she walk?”

“I think so. She said her head started hurting suddenly. I’ll go get her.”

Chase tapped his foot as he waited for Lia to return.

Jayson appeared at his side. “Everything okay?”

“Sabrina’s sick.” He pulled out his wallet and handed Jayson his credit card. “I’m going to take

her home. Give me the card back later.”

Lia finally returned with a pale Sabrina who fell into his arms. “Chase . . .”
