Lia watched anxiously as Chase examined Sabrina’s face. “Can you tell what’s wrong?”

Chase shook his head as he cupped Sabrina’s face. “No. I’ll get her into bed.” He gave Lia a tight

smile. “Thanks for bringing her out.”

Lia nodded and looked at Sabrina. “I’m sorry.”

Sabrina squinted her eyes at Lia, looking confused.

“Thanks, Lia. See ya later, Jay.” He put his arm around Sabrina and supported her as they walked

out of the restaurant.

When they got home, he carried her up to the bedroom and placed her gently on the bed.

“What happened?” Ethan asked as he followed them upstairs.

Sabrina’s face was pale and her smile weak. “I’m okay.” She closed her eyes again.

Chase looked at Ethan. “I don’t know. She said she got a blinding headache in the bathroom and

can’t remember anything else.” He looked up at the ceiling, blinking. “I shouldn’t have left her alone.”

“Chase, you can’t be with her every second. Even I let her go to the bathroom by herself.”

“But what if—”

Ethan put his hand on Chase’s shoulder. “Or maybe it’s just a headache. It does happen.”

“Not to her.”

Ethan sighed and sat down on the bed next to Sabrina. “Did you see anyone else go in or out?”

Chase shook his head.

“Do you think Lia did something?”

“No. She’s a timid person. I’ve always had this sense she was a whispered ‘boo!’ away from

falling to pieces. I can’t see her staying calm and telling me about Sabrina if she’d done anything. She

looked nervous when she was telling me what happened.”

“Well, I’d say I’ll keep an eye on Sabrina, but I already do.”

Chase chuckled. “I know you do.”

Sabrina sighed and turned onto her side. Her coloring slowly returned to normal and Chase let out

a sigh of relief. He glanced up at Ethan. “Stay with us tonight?”

“You sure you want me to with Lance here?”

“Shit. Is he asleep?” Chase had forgotten about Lance’s arrival. Chase had finally given in to

Ethan’s insistence on his having someone watch his back like he watched over Sabrina. Lance had to

finish up a few things at the base but arrived this afternoon.
