really ask for her death?” Wilhelm’s piercing blue eyes bored into the other man’s.
Kano lifted his chin. “She is not as innocent as you proclaim. She violated the sanctity of my
Manor! She nearly killed an Elder-Son.”
“To protect her husband,” Richard protested.
“You are blind, Richard.” Kano huffed. “She is no innocent.”
“She’s never claimed to be,” Richard said. “But I believe she will not willingly return to her first
Master. She loves Chase with all her heart.”
“You believe!” Kano scoffed and the others behind him murmured in agreement. “Belief does
nothing in the face of reality. I call for her death!”
Sabrina’s heart dropped into her stomach. She could see in his face that Kano was serious. Could
he really call for her death?
“I second his assertion!” someone a few rows back from Kano shouted.
The room erupted in shouting.
She looked up to see Tom close his eyes and press his lips together. Sabrina looked to the back of
the room where Theo stood, his jaw hard and his eyes closed. He opened his eyes, the normal blue
having turned to golden anger. Yes, Sabrina. They have a right to kill you if a majority agrees.
Sabrina felt as if someone had kicked her in the chest. Her entire body trembled. I don’t want to
die!
For the first time since she could remember, she had something to live for. Someone to live for.
She fell forward and buried her face in her knees. I don’t want to die. I don’t want to die. Theo, help
me!
The room grew cold, and she looked up. Theo had disappeared! Richard and Tom looked at each
other, then dragged her behind them. Wilhelm and the men around him walked up and stood shoulder
to shoulder with Richard and Tom. Protecting her. Twenty men against over a hundred angry ones
down on the main floor. She huddled behind the robes of her protectors, wishing with all her might
that Chase was next to her.
Sabrina heard a whoosh and everyone stopped talking at once.
A new being had appeared in the room. She could feel him. His power radiated out from him and
filled the entire space, putting the power of the combined Elders to shame. She could see the top of
his head over the shoulders of the men in front of her but their long robes hid the rest of him.
