“The Koriathanati do nothing on their own,” Richard said. “They follow the will of their

“And who is her Master?”

Tom and Richard hesitated. Sabrina stared at the floor, wondering how they would explain her

Master was an ancient evil banished from the world thousands of years ago. Did the other Elders

know about him?

“Chase has taken her, both as a husband and as a Master to counterbalance her other Master,”

Richard said after a long pause.

“That is little comfort. More suspicious than anything.” Kano jutted his jaw. “Who is her other

Master?”

“We don’t know for certain.”

“Who do you suspect?”

Neither Richard nor Tom answered.

“And why has an Elder-Son been given such a powerful woman to control?”

Many of the Elders asked the same question. Sabrina trembled, wishing with everything she was

that she was home, safe with Chase and Ethan by her side.

Wilhelm stepped forward. “Her marrying Chase was the easiest way to keep her—and us—safe.”

His voice was deep and soothing, and he spoke with a thick German accent. “If her Master has ill

plans, then her belonging to a man she loves is the best chance we have to fight whoever he is.”

“It would be better to be married to an Elder, not a Son, for our ‘best chance,’ Wilhelm,” Kano

spat.

Wilhelm arched a brow at the much shorter man. “Who would you propose? We are all married.”

Kano frowned but didn’t offer an alternative.

“My Alex helped defeat Devin. I know for a fact Alex and Chase have talked extensively about

the situation. Chase knows the difficulties that come along with marriage to a demi-Immortal. But he

is a good man, as all can attest here.” Wilhelm motioned with his hand around the room. “Would you
