Ethan nodded and pulled Sabrina in for a hard hug. “It’ll be okay,” he whispered in her ear and
then stepped back. “Take care of her,” he said to Theo.
Theo nodded. “Of course.” He took Sabrina’s hand. The last thing she saw was Ethan’s concerned
expression before she closed her eyes, trying to maintain a semblance of space as the room spun.
The next moment, she opened her eyes and found herself in the back of the room she’d visited the
previous night. Hundreds of white robes spread out in the space in front of her, though no one had
noticed her appear. Sabrina was glad to have Theo next to her.
He motioned toward the front of the room and she began walking.
I will remain here so they are not threatened, came Theo’s voice in her head.
She turned around, wide-eyed, but he gave an encouraging nod.
I will be by your side in an instant if you need me.
She swallowed and turned back toward the front of the room. She felt alone. Vulnerable. Afraid.
Richard and Tom stood near the platform. So far away.
Richard noticed her and gave a reassuring smile. She smiled back and took a few steps toward
him. The power of the gathered men overwhelmed her as she made her way forward. They stopped
talking and stared at her, expressions either curious or angry, or a mixture of both. She felt their anger,
their passion, their fear, and their lust. Her chest squeezed and she struggled to breathe. The room
spun, and she stumbled.
Sabrina took in as deep a breath as she could and kept walking. No one helped her. No one
touched her. Tears threatened to fall, but she blinked and lifted her chin, determined not to cry in front
of these men.
Why did they hate her so much? Even if she lost her temper, she was certain they could
overpower her without breaking a sweat. She could feel their power and she was one lone young
woman. Compared to their power, she had nothing. They could crush me easily.
She stopped at the base of the platform.
Go to your knees and bow low, Sabrina. Wait for Richard to give you permission to sit up.
Sabrina hesitated.
You are not alone, Sabrina. Everything will be all right.
She did as Theo said and waited. A hand touched her head a moment later. “You may sit up,
Sabrina. Stay on your knees, but turn around.”
