She followed Richard’s instructions and turned to face the hostile crowd. A small group of men to

her left seemed to be the only ones not angry. Concerned, yes, but not angry. She recognized Wilhelm,

Alex’s father, but the others were strangers. The rest of the hundred and fifty men frowned at her.

She trembled and reached forward to steady herself, head bowed.

“Why is the Immortal still here, Richard?” An Asian man asked from the side of the platform,

walking to Sabrina and towing over her. He glared at Richard. “Have you no respect for our ways?”

“I don’t control the Immortals any more than you do, Kano,” Richard said in a calm voice.

“Perhaps you should ask him yourself.”

She glanced up, and Kano narrowed his eyes. “You are afraid?” he asked with a sneer. Sabrina

nodded, and he smiled. “Then perhaps you are not what we are concerned that you are.”

What does that mean? What does he think I am? She wanted to look behind her at her advocates

but had a feeling that moving would be frowned upon.

“Speak your mind, Kano,” Tom said, looking irritated.

“You know our concerns.”

“You have told me. You haven’t spoken them openly.”

Sabrina stared open-mouthed at Kano. His words shot chills through her entire body. The

swallowed hard.
