Lola

The chatter coming from the living room pulled me from a deep, satisfying sleep. I’d been reliving my experience with the guys on the hood of my car over and over again in my dreams. I’d been in the middle of one particularly electrifying moment when the voices broke into my bliss and brought me to reality.

Sitting up, my lips turned down into a frown upon discovering I was left alone. I looked to the left and noticed the window. There were no bars on this particular window. They must really trust me if they left me alone with the chance I could just slip out of the window and into the cloak of darkened forest.

Yeah, and where would you go, a voice scoffed in the back of my mind. You’d die trying to escape in the wilderness,or get lost end up at the gates of the crops and get shot by one of the guards. From my understanding the men there shot first and asked questions later. I hadn’t had an opportunity meet any of them, not that I really wanted to.

But there was another explanation. I was falling for them. Not just one – but both.

“Oh shit…” I groaned, running a hand through my hair. “What have I done?” I’d talk to them, figure this all out. If I was a fling because we were all cooped up here, then it was what it was. But if I was something more, if they were getting the same feelings, then we’d have to think this situation over.

Sliding out of bed, I didn’t bother with a bra or panties. Going to Ash’s dresser I pulled the top drawer open. Grabbing a pair of boxers, I pulled them on. The drawer below the boxers was t-shirts. Pulling it open I grabbed a black t-shirt and pulled it over my head. The smell of fresh breeze fabric softener wrapped itself around me, reminding me of Ash. Grabbing the neck of the shirt, I brought it to my nose and inhaled deeply. I could get used to snuggling up to the body that I associated with that scent every night.

The voices from the other room became louder. My ears perked up when I detected additional voices. Was that Talon? This time of night?

Curiosity made me rush forward to the bedroom door. Flinging it open, I briefly hesitated, one voice spoke that was all too familiar – that brute Cisco. I really didn’t want to face him again, but my men were both here. They wouldn’t let him hurt me. I had no concrete proof that my assumption that they’d protect me was correct, but I just felt it deep down.

“Talon, you and your stooges can go fuck yourself!” I cringed at the venom in the woman’s voice.

Who in the hell is here? Lily was the only female who came and her voice wasn’t like what I’d just heard. Lily’s voice was light and airy. This woman had a thick accent. I couldn’t place it exactly, but it would be safe to say it was the accent of a Latina woman.

Gabriella? Could they have really found her? Relief flooded though me as I practically ran the rest of the way to the living room to see for myself the woman whom I’d been mistaken for. Clearing the hallway, I stopped short in my tracks as I looked at the woman. Her wrists and ankles were bound with silver duct tape and she was sitting on the sofa, shooting daggers at each of the men in the room with her dark onyx eyes.

“Holy shit!” I gasped, my eyed widening to the size of saucers. “You… You look so much like me.” I took a few steps closer, hardly believing my eyes. She didn’t look exactly like me. She was a little thicker – not by much, but a little. Maybe ten pounds or so. She had blatantly false eyelashes and had apparently had one too many lip injections, kinda reminded me of someone from one of the Housewives of such-and-such a city shows. She also looked a little older, despite the blatant injections. Not by much, but I’d assume she’d spent too much time sun worshipping.

Aside from those things, she looked identical to me right down to the black eyes and long dark hair. She was me if I’d had a harder life. Had I just walked into the twilight zone? I looked to Ash and then Phoenix. Was I crazy or were they seeing it too?

Maybe I was still dreaming?

The other woman finally noticed me and set her gaze on me, staring so hard that it sent a shiver down my spine. “Who the fuck are you?” she asked, her eyes narrowing as confusion settled into her expression. Her gaze moved down and up the length of me a couple of times.

I took a step closer to her and then another, walking cautiously as if I walked too quickly toward her, I’d spook her. “I’m Lola.”

“Why in the hell do you look like me?”

“I have no idea, why you look like me?” I wasn’t about to admit I was the imposter.

Gabriella looked over at Talon. “What kind of game are you playing Talon? Were you going to try and have her impersonate me?” She laughed. “He’ll never buy it. Now fucking let me go before some real problems begin for you and the club. Maybe if you let me go now, Raven won’t cut you from ear to ear.”

Ash came up beside me. Leaning down, he whispered. There was a harshness in his voice that made me grimace. “Aside from the accent she sounds just like you. Looks just like you. Are you a twin? Have you been lying to us all this time?”

“Of course not.” I eyeballed her with intense scrutiny. He was right. How could that be possible? “I don’t understand,” I whispered back. “I was adopted. As far as I knew I was an only child.”

“Gabriella, were you adopted?” Ash asked.

She looked up at him. “What’s it to you?” Her gaze then went back to me, eyes narrowing again. “Come here. I want to see you better.”

I looked up at Ash who nodded. Walking over to the sofa I sat down on the opposite end and we stared at each other. It was like looking into a mirror.

“This is fucked up…” she whispered, more to herself than to me.

“You were, weren’t you?” I prompted, already knowing the answer. “All of my life I always felt like there was someone out there who was connected to me. Just felt like I was only halfway complete. It’s because I wasn’t alone. I had a twin.” It was the only reasonable conclusion, unless she was a clone. Though the clone thing was a little far-fetched and sci-fi.

For a moment her features softened. She could relate to what I was saying. She’d felt it too. But her mood quickly shifted back. “Look, I don’t know what kind of game is going on here, but I’m not biting. Some cosmetic surgery and you can make someone who looks similar to me look identical.”

Talon laughed. “Are you fucking serious? Look, I don’t need to get some copycat of you because I have you. We can figure out this dopplegänger shit out later, we have more pressing issues at hand.”

“What’s that?” She turned her head to look at the club president.
