Page 99 of Griffin

One change at a time, and I already have another change coming up.

“I love you.” Griffin shrugs, lifting the beer bottle to his lips. “Do you want a glass of wine?”

“Ew.” Melody makes a face as I laugh, cuddling her close. Her hair smells of coconuts, and I can’t help but bury my head in her curls.

“I love you, Mel,” I whisper, and she giggles.

“Your voice tickles my ear.”

“I’m sorry,” I say, pulling back to grin at her.

“Ivy, wine?” Griffin asks, rising to his feet as I shake my head.

“No, I can’t.”

Griffin frowns.

“Can’t? Why, because of work? Shit, weallhave work.” He taps the top of his beer bottle as I bite my lip, shaking my head.

“No, not because of work.”

My breathing accelerates as he stares at me, his brain working double time.

He glances at Melody, who’s braiding my hair, his face paling.

“Say it.”

I laugh, a giddiness spreading through my body, elated by his reaction.

“Please, you’re killing me,” Griffin whispers, falling to his knees to gather Melody into his arms, his eyes darting to my stomach.

“You already know,Daddy.” I stroke my stomach as he closes his eyes, tears spilling from his eyes.

“Melody,” I say, watching as she turns to me with wide eyes. “We have something to tell you, and we hope you like it.”

Melody nods, stepping towards me with an excited smile on her lips.

“Is it ice cream?”

Griffin chokes with laughter, still shaking his head as he gazes at me with adoration.

I’d waited long enough to tell Griffin and Melody — my family. I’d forced myself to wait as long as possible to ensure I didn’t disappoint anyone if anything went wrong.

Call it anxiety, but I felt it was the right thing to do.

“Your daddy and I are going to have a baby.”

Griffin watches Melody as her lips spread wide.

“Really?!”

Her little voice makes my skin tingle. Her excitement is contagious.

“Really.”

Melody throws her arms around me, burying her head into my neck as she whispers in my ear.

“Thank you.”
