“Anything else bothering you?”
I shake my head.
He says, “The nurse will be in with your goodies in a bit, so sit tight.”
Again, I’m left alone. But this time I feel like someone is watching me. There’s a small window that overlooks the parking lot and when I look out, I see the source of my unease. Clayton stands next to his vehicle, looking right at me. Well, he might not know what room I’m in, but he definitely knows I’m here. I’m so engrossed in watching him that I don’t hear Seb enter.
“Fuck. Is that Greystoke?” I jump and Seb says, “Sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you.”
“It’s fine. And yes, that’s Clayton.”
Seb shakes his head, pulling out his cell phone.
“Boss, did you send Greystoke to Ari’s appointment?” He pauses. “Yeah, he’s here. Standing outside his car, waiting.” Another pause. “Will do. See you later.”
He ends the call and turns to me. “He’s sending another car to get you.”
“Did he know Clayton was here?”
“No, but he said he’d get to the bottom of it.”
I glance out the window just in time to see Clayton answering his phone. His expression darkens, making me shrink from the window just in case he does know where I’m at.
Seb says, “The car just pulled up at the back door. Come on. Let’s get you out of here.”
“Thank you.”
We leave the exam room and go down a different hallway that leads us to a door. Outside, a black sedan is waiting. Seb opens the door and I hurry inside. I know Kieran’s been in here recently because his scent lingers in the air. My damn eyes water and I brush away the tears. How pathetic am I? Crying just because I cansmellhim? I shake my head, shoving all emotions aside.
“Where is Kieran now? Are we going to meet him?”
“He’s going to meet us at the house as soon as he can get away.”
It’s not what I want to hear, but it’s better than nothing.
“What if Clayton shows up at the house?”
“Well, the good news is that we aren’t going straight to the house.”
“We aren’t?”
He smiles. “I was thinking we could grab a bite to eat. And there’s a movie I’ve been dying to see, starring my man-crush, Jeffrey Dean Morgan.”
I laugh at that. “Sounds like a date.”
“Shh. I don’t want the driver to think I’m taken.”
The driver glances up, and I can tell he’s smiling. “I’d never assume anything like that, Sebastian.”
Seb blows him a kiss, making me grin.
“So, you and the driver, huh?”
Seb shrugs. “Yeah.”
“I’m happy for you.”
“I’ll tell you all about it when we get pizza.”
