“She said she would be our first investor, it wasn’t a loan,” Michael argues again.

“Then why did you sign the loan paperwork, Mr. Nelson?” the mediator asks.

Michael has nothing to say; he keeps searching for the words, but nothing comes out and I can see he is fuming over it.

“You know Lucia gave us that money as a gift. She never expected us to pay her back. Why are you lying? You’re doing this out of revenge because I fucked someone else. You’re being petty, Paige,” Michael spits. His lawyer turns and glares at him, unhappy with his outburst.

“As per the paperwork you signed, the contract states that it was a loan from her family and that you would be paying off the debt together,” the mediator explains to him.

“My client wishes for her name to be taken off all paperwork relating to the restaurant. She would also like to be taken off the LLC, and she wants no liabilities regarding the restaurant,” Abigail adds.

Michael’s mouth falls open at my request. See, I’m not a bitch.

“What would your client want in return?” Michael’s lawyer asks.

“That Mr. Nelson’s name be removed from the ownership of their apartment. She is not seeking any other monetarycompensation. We believe what is owed on each asset is about the same amount and would be a fair swap,” Abigail explains.

“Are you fucking serious? You want to turn me out on the streets?” Michael argues.

“Calm down,” Michael’s lawyer says, chastising him.

“No, I won’t calm down. This woman here has inherited a fortune. That’s right, I had someone investigate you and find out what happened in Italy, because I’m sure you were cheating on me the entire time you were there.”

Is he serious right now? He had someone investigate me.

His lawyer throws up his hands at his outburst.

“I’m sure they found my client was faithful the entire time,” Abigail answers, staring Michael down.

“Yeah, whatever. What was even more important was he found out she’s been crowned a countess and inherited a multi-million-dollar fortune. She’s rich. Stinking fucking rich. With houses and businesses all over the world and now she wants to take my home when she has so much. Were you ever going to tell me, Paige? Or was that your plan when you came back from Italy? You were going to leave me and take everything I worked my ass off for.”

Is he serious?

He thinks I planned for him to not file our marriage papers all those years ago. That I planned to be named Lucia’s heir. That somehow it was all in my master plan that I would catch him cheating on me. For what? To get our crappy apartment?

“You are throwing me out on the street to get revenge on me for sleeping with Amelia. That’s pretty fucking low, Paige,” he curses at me.

How is this my fault?

Callie squeezes my hand under the table trying to calm me down, as she can tell my temperature is rising with every word out of his mouth.

“Mr. Nelson, please calm down, I will not have you raising your voice in this meeting. Mr. Cannon, I suggest you remind your client of where he is,” the mediator intervenes, then Michael’s lawyer whispers into his ear and tries to calm him down.

“My client is being very fair. Under the law, she is entitled to call in the debt. My suggestion so that you both don’t waste your money on lawyer fees is that we resolve this today or Mr. Cannon and I would be only too happy to continue this fight. There’s a new Mercedes that I have my eye on,” Abigail suggests.

“Paige doesn’t need the apartment. She has three in Europe that she can live in. I have nothing,” he yells.

“You could also have no restaurant, too, if you look at it like that. The choice is yours, Mr. Nelson,” Abigail states.

“But it’s not fair. She has everything, and I have nothing,” he moans.

He should have thought about that before sticking his dick in every woman that works for us.

“Mr. Nelson, this is a good deal. If the relationship is over, then it is for the best to move on and this way you can,” his lawyer explains to him.

“She has so much already,” he continues to argue.

“What she inherited has nothing to do with what you two have built together. I’m sorry if you feel that it’s unfair, but if you do not resolve this, then you are both going to be tied up in court cases for the next year and the only people who will win will be the lawyers. A court will rule that everything should be split, which means she will get half of your restaurant. Is that what you want, Mr. Nelson?” the mediator asks him.
