I am hyperaware of Gabriel’s movement on the other side of the room.
“Look who we have here,” Serafina smirks. I want to wipe that smile off her stupid face. Does she have any idea what they have cost me?
My power ripples in my veins, and I work hard to contain it. I am unsure if I will be able to suppress it for long, but I don’t want to risk myself going off with my mate so close by. I cannot risk him getting hurt in the process.
“Are you okay?” Gabriel shouts.
“Yes. I’m okay, Gabriel.” I can feel my skin warm up as power and energy surge through me. I can feel it dancing in my fingertips. I don’t know how I know, but suddenly I know what my power can do and how to use it. “Don’t worry about me.”
Lucius and Serafina glare at me with indignation. Lucius says, “We should have killed you when we had the chance.”
“What is wrong with you? Your lust for power and control is disgusting! You kidnap me! You threaten me… and my mate! AND YOU TRY TO KILL HIS FAMILY! You are unworthy of the power you seek.”
They both just glare at me.
“Nothing? You have nothing more to say?” I flick my hand toward them, knocking them down with an invisible force. “You killed my parents. You took away everything that I was supposed to be. I was a child!”
Serafina pipes up, “We did you a favor, girl. Your family would have only corrupted you. We couldn’t let the fairies rule over us any longer. Vampires and werewolves are the true rulers, and we will NOT bow to any of your kind.”
Lucius sneers at me, “You are an abomination.”
“Maybe. I don’t understand why you didn’t kill me when you had the chance. Instead, you took away the only family I had.”
“They had to pay,” Serafina says.
“Tit for tat then, huh? A life for a life. I am stronger than both of you.”
They begin to approach threateningly.
“You might be stronger than us,” Lucius says, “But we all know that you have not yet learned how to harness that power. If you try to kill us, then you might risk killing yourself and your precious little lover.”
Oh God! What if he is right?
“Stay back!” My powers are brewing within me, and my anger and fear are urging me to use them.
Serafina bares her teeth, and they both lunge at me!
“Nooooo!” I hear Gabriel scream.
I have no other choice. I have to protect myself.
Fueled by fear, rage, and adrenaline, I hold out both my arms, making a fist with each hand. I motion quickly, jerking, as though my hands are at their throats. The sound of their necks cracking makes me cringe, and they fall to the ground in crumpled heaps.
Instantly, I regret it.Oh gods! What have I done?
In shock, I look toward Gabriel. He and Ambrose are still engaged in hand-to-hand combat. At the sight of me, Ambrose pauses, staring.
Gabriel turns toward me, and I can tell they are both surprised to see me standing there alone and unharmed.
My whole body is shaking from the impact of it all. I never knew just how much power I held.
I just killed them.
My heart is still beating hard in my chest.
I killed them.
They deserved it,another part of my brain reminds me.
