Maybe I am in shock, but I am rooted in place as I stare blankly at the place where the two were standing.

“You killed them,” Ambrose gasps, distracted enough for Gabriel to punch him squarely in the face.

“They gave me no other choice,” I whisper.

This is the first time anyone (including me) has seen the full extent of my power, and I can see the fear in his eyes.

Gabriel hits him again, and he falls to the floor. His eyes look up to me, pleading.

I want to say something, but this is not my fight. This is between my mate and him. Ambrose went for his company, his people, and most importantly, his family.

It is up to Gabriel to choose what punishment should be doled out.

I step out of the warehouse and breathe my first breath of fresh air in days. I don’t know where the time went, but now the sun is rising.

My hands are still shaking as I come to terms with what just happened.

As I stand there waiting, absorbing the warm sunshine, I dwell on Lucius’ and Serafina’s deaths. In my heart, I know it needed to be done, but the guilt I feel from taking their lives will haunt me. They killed my parents, and for that, I will not regret my actions, but how will I recover and move on?

Only time will tell.

After what feels like minutes, Gabriel steps outside, his clothes covered in blood. He doesn’t explain; he just takes my hand and smiles sadly at me.

“Baby,”he says.

“I killed them,”I gasp. “They were terrible people, and they tried to kill all of us…”

“Shh! I know,” he says as he cups my cheek tenderly.

We are both covered in blood and sweat.

I should feel happy or relieved that this is finally over, but I just feel numb. I want to make sure that Liam is okay.

“Breathe for me,” Gabriel says as his thumb strokes gently.

I take a deep breath, letting the air into my lungs. “They are dead.”

“They deserved it, Jade. This was all self-defense. They saw it coming.”

“You really think so?” I ask.

His eyes blink once as he pulls me in for a hug, “I know so. It is over, Jade. It is all over now.”

I let him hold me, reassuring me that I am fine now. That we both are.

“It is over,” I whisper after a while.

“Yes,baby. It is all over. Let’s go home.”

Chapter 29

Jade

The moment we step through the shattered doorway, glass crunching beneath our shoes, Liam comes bounding towards us, his messy hair sticking out in all directions.

“Jade! Dad!” he exclaims, his small arms reaching out for a hug.

He is unharmed. He is okay.
