I shook my head, because Tylendel had already tested him and taught Théoden how to use the Knight abilities he did have that were new to him. “Unfortunately, he doesn’t. To gain all of the powers, one has to be a full-blood dragon.”
“I think I get it. Like only Knights can bring a dragon into their power?”
“Male and female. The young male dragons leave the female territory to perform their ritual and to fulfill their duties as soldiers. But Knights go into the female territory to give them their Rite of Passage,” I said, then waved my hand. “Anyway, getting back toPurefire, it can even kill other dragons, so I’m willing to bet it will kill these vampires.”
“Well, fuck, now I see why you’re really not worried about these vampires,” Elliot said, smiling.
I smirked and winked. “When you’re the most powerful fucking being on the planet, who can fuck with you?”
“Hell yeah,” Elliot said, then leaned down and kissed me. His hand reached around and grabbed my ass. “Save this for me. I never did get a chance to bust my nut in you.”
I laughed. “At least, I got to unload inside of you first.”
He smiled and kissed me again. “Let’s get ready.”
I nodded and we walked out of the council chamber to prepare for battle. Ara had better be worth it.
Chapter eleven
Deacon
Iswamtothejacuzzi section of our heated indoor pool and climbed inside, joining Elijah as he relaxed among the jets and bubbles. His head back, eyes closed. I moved closer and kissed his neck and he smiled.
“You know, I didn’t think I’d ever be rich,” he said, then sighed.
I laughed. “When I was a kid, I had no concept of what rich really was. So, it wasn’t anything I dreamed about. All I wanted to be was made whole, a full wolf and a Beta Capo like my father.”
Elijah opened his blue eyes and looked at me. “It’s so weird for me to picture you as a child.”
I laughed again. “You think that I popped out of my mother as a full-grown man?”
He laughed, then and shook his head. “No, not that. I just can’t picture you ever being an innocent child. You’re so fucking devious, but sexy as hell.” He leaned down since he was a few inches taller than I was even when we were sitting side-by-side. He pressed his lips to mine and I kissed him back, claiming him as I always did.
I sighed once I broke the kiss and settled back, closing my eyes as I relaxed with him while he did the same. The water massaged my body as I listened to the tranquil sounds of the water and bubbles popping around us. The hum of the motor running the jacuzzi, it was all very soothing. A good five minutes passed in silence between us before I spoke.
“I never told you how I came to be the Alpha,” I said. I opened my eyes and looked at Elijah and he was looking at me. The expression on his handsome face let me know his interest was well piqued.
“No, you haven’t, and I’d love to know.”
“Truth be told, it was a bitter sweet ascension. I am both proud and ashamed,” I said, thinking about my rise to power.
Eli’s eyebrows creased as his lips turned downward. “Why?” He shifted in the water so he could get a better look at me.
“I had to betray a very dear friend of mine in order to put myself in the position to challenge our Alpha, Julie. To this day, I still haven’t forgiven myself for what I did. But in order for me to become the Alpha, it couldn't have been avoided. My wives know, Elliot knows, and now you should know. I hope you still love me after I tell you,” I said as I gazed at my mate.
“I have no disillusions as to what you’re capable of, Deacon. In my time with you, I’ve learned one thing. You do what you feel like you need to do in order to raise the status of our pack. You make the hard decisions and you play the long game in order to get your goals achieved. You match wits with the best of them and can hold your own. I love you, so nothing you tell me right now will ever change that,” Elijah said.
I reached into the water, found his hand, and took it into my own. Then I began to tell him how I became the wolf and Alpha I am today. “And that’s why I do what I do. Because I have to make sure that their deaths aren’t in vain. This pack must always gain in power and territory,” I said an hour later once I was done telling my story.
“Jesus Christ,” Elijah said, running his fingers through his hair. “The shit you’ve been through… I can’t imagine.”
“It made me a survivor, Elijah. Everything I have, I’ve had to fight and struggle for it. I was once told that an Alpha as young as my first Alpha was could never be a good leader of a wolf pack. That three hundred years was too young. I’m less than five centuries, yet, here I am. Was some of it luck?” I shrugged. “Maybe. Could also be fate, and I’ll take my victories however they come. My pack has survived Laurent’s, Akio’s, and Selena’s.”
“Josef’s pack still lasts because it would seem that his fate is entwined in yours,” Elijah said.
I pursed my lips. “Perhaps. As long as he stays over there, I’m satisfied.” I exhaled and scooted closer to my mate. “So, now you know all of my dirty little secrets. A privilege that only four other people know.”
“And I will never betray your trust, Deacon,” Elijah said, then he kissed me.
