“Hey, I heard banging-” Porter begins. “Shit.”
All I can hear now is running.
“Porter? Can you hear me?”
“Micheal,” Porter pants. “How far are you?”
“Too far to help you right now. Go to the kitchen. You know where the knives are.”
“Ok.”
Just as I want to be driving faster, a set of traffic lights bring me to a halt. “Hurry Porter.”
“I'm nearly there,” Porter pants. “Caeo, he had blood all over his face.”
“Who? Nico?”
“Yes. Michael was trying to kill him.”
“I'm coming, Poe, just arm yourself and let me know. Is he still chasing you?”
“Uh, no. Shit no. He's gone back to Nico, hasn't he?”
“I don't know. Probably. But you can't help him just yet. You're good with knives. You need to get to the kitchen.”
“I'm here.” Porter cheers.
“You need to stop the engine. Stop the boat so I can get on. I'm coming, OK?”
“OK.”
I hang up and instantly redial, calling Knox.
“I know, bad timing. I need your help.”
“Sure, what is it? Kaulin and Christian are just debating how much of the original agreement is going to stay in place.”
“Michael is trying to kill Nico.”
“Fuck. How close are you?”
“Not close enough. Porter says the yacht has left the Dock.”
“I'm going to hang up and call them now.” Knox says the words I want to hear.
“Thanks.”
Chapter forty-three
Nico
Michaeldoesn'tchasePorterfor long before he comes back for me. I'm ready and waiting for him. People see the side of me who tortures men for information. They seem to forget the side that has to go and collect them to get them there in the first place. Alright, I admit, most of the time Gavriil just punched them in the face and they'd go down like a sack of potatoes, but I've had my fair share of takedowns. Unfortunately, the wobble of the moving boat is making everything swim and just staying upright is quite an interesting challenge. Voices behind me have me turning, I fall over my own feet and land on my arse.
“Well, at least we can report that the kids awake.” One man gives a shrug.
“Are you sure you want to report anything till we find out where the blood came from?” The other replies.
“Let's get him up and check.”
