I quietly get dressed while texting Andreas to ask him to meet me outside of my building. Since his sister is in bed, I don’t need to tell him to come inside.
I kiss Audrina on the forehead, waking her up for just a second. “I’ll be back in a little while. Get some sleep,” I kiss her once more on the lips.
Being sweet to someone is something I haven’t done in a long time. I’ve never been one to be this caring for someone like I am for Audrina.
The worst part? All of this is going to blow over very quickly.
When I’m at the front of my building, Andreas is waiting in his car for me. He delivered Audrina’s car to my parking garage the day after I took her home from the hospital, and I’m glad she isn’t stranded.
Getting Audrina to feel more comfortable going outside will be hard at this time since she’s so scared about Detective Milgram. I couldn’t give a rat’s ass about the investigation.
Go on. Investigate.
I get into his car and begin to give him directions to my father’s compound.
“I’m not going anywhere until you tell me where we’re going,” he stubbornly replies.
“We’re going to my father’s compound. He wants to talk to us, and he is going to be pissed if he has to come get us,” I inform him.
He starts shaking his head. “There is no way in hell I’m going to his compound.”
“We don’t have a choice in the matter. Andreas, I’m telling you if we don’t go there, he’s coming here, and shit’s going to get worse.”
He starts following directions but constantly looks at all the mirrors in his car. I suspected he knew who my father was all these years we’d been friends, but this secures my suspicions.
“How long have you known?” I ask when he pulls off to the highway.
He shrugs. “I’ve known for a while but didn’t want to ask.”
“I appreciate it.”
He’s still driving when a car has kept pace with us and continues to follow behind us. Andreas is already on it and has begins to try to lose the car. He’s speeding in and out of lanes, getting behind random cars, and is about to turn off on the wrong exit.
“What the hell?” I shout when the car speeds up closely behind us and then swerves to go onto the shoulder of the highway. He’s pointing to something in his passenger side, trying to get my attention.
“What the actual fuck is going on?” Andreas yells into the car. “Does this have something to do with why we’re going to your dad’s?”
“No, man. I don’t know what this guy’s problem is. I want you to speed up and then immediately slow down. I need to get the license plate off this asshole’s car,” I instruct while pulling out my phone to take a picture.
The other car is decent. It’s an older model Mercedes with a lot of rust on it. He’s not in any of the families because they would have made him get a new car if he were. This is an embarrassment.
I take a picture of the license plate once Andreas speeds up and slams on the brakes. I forward the picture to Greg and Miklos to begin identifying the person.
Miklos is the first to call me. “He’s a nobody. He’s not inside. Where are you?” Byinside,Miklos means he’s not a member of our family.
I give him the coordinates to where we are, and he’s pulling up the street cameras to see what’s happening.
“What’s in the seat?” I ask him.
“It looks like documents with something blunt under it. Is Audrina’s brother driving?” Miklos asks.
“Hello? What is going on?” Andreas is pissed and confused regarding everything, and I can’t blame him.
“All right,” my father’s security guard advises, “you’re going to continue going to straight and then pull off at the next road. Once you’re there, we’ll have some guys waiting for you.”
“Miklos, is this an attempt?”
With me coming back to the family, some people are going to be pissed about me joining up. Since I’m a nepo-child, I don’t have to prove myself and don’t need to worry about any of the initiations when a newly made man enters the Bilias Family. With all that being said, my coming back and taking up the seat that has been mine will spark some controversy.
