“But what about Kate?” I ask softly, feeling the weight of responsibility heavy on my shoulders. “What happens to her?”

Aleksandr’s hard expression softens as he looks at me, his hand gently cupping my cheek. “She chose her side when she turned against us. Blood or not, she is an enemy now.”

“No, Aleksandr, you can’t hurt her!” I plead, the thought of harm coming to my sister, despite everything, is unbearable.

Aleksandr’s eyes search mine, looking for an understanding I’m struggling to provide.

“She could’ve hurt you, Emma! I can’t let anyone hurt someone who’s mine.”

His words send a shiver down my spine, and I can’t deny the mixed emotions swirling within me. On the one hand, I understand his need to protect me and keep the Bratva safe. On the other, I can’t help but feel conflicted about the thought of hurting my own sister.

“But, can’t we find another way? Something that doesn’t involve hurting her?” I ask, hoping for a compromise.

Aleksandr hesitates for a moment before he speaks. “I’ll see what we can do. But there are consequences to betrayal, Emma. Kate knew what she was getting into when she sided with our enemies.”

I nod slowly, feeling the weight of his words. It’s clear this situation won’t be resolved easily, but I trust Aleksandr to do what’s necessary to keep us safe.

Suddenly, the tension in the air shifts as Aleksandr leans in close, his lips grazing my neck. I gasp at the sudden sensation, heat flaring through me as his hands find their way to my waist.

His actions catch me off guard, but I don’t resist as Aleksandr’s lips trail down to my collarbone. My fingers tangle in his hair, pulling him closer as we lose ourselves in the moment.

Everything else fades away as Aleksandr’s body presses against mine, our breathing labored with desire.

“You make it difficult to focus on anything else,” he murmurs against my skin.

I can only respond with a moan as he trails hot kisses down my chest, his hands expertly undoing the buttons of my blouse.

The intensity of his touch ignites a fire within me, and I find myself yielding to the pleasure he’s giving me.

In this moment, there are no enemies or danger. There is only us.

But then the door opens. It’s Dmitri. “We need to go.”

Aleksandr’s eyes flicker with a mix of annoyance and urgency as he looks at Dmitri. “Can’t it wait?”

“No. It can’t,” Dmitri answers, and I can see a trace of jealousy in his eyes.

Aleksandr’s jaw twitches, but he manages to hide his irritation as he moves away from me. “We’ll continue this later.”

I look at him pleadingly, but he simply ignores me as he walks over to Dmitri. I let out a frustrated sigh, redoing the buttons of my blouse as I follow the two men out of the building.

“Where is Nikolai?” I ask, a hint of worry creeping into my voice. “And Alina?”

Dmitri’s expression is all business as he answers. “Nikolai took Alina. We’ll meet with them somewhere far from here.”

“For what?” I press, trying to grasp the full picture.

He glances at me, his eyes steady. “To talk,” he replies simply.

As we get in the car, Aleksandr takes the wheel while Dmitri and I settle into the backseat. The city lights blur past, creating a sense of disorientation. I realize I don’t have myphone with me, I threw it away earlier to avoid being tracked. A wave of panic begins to set in; I’m disconnected, unsure of our destination.

Dmitri seems to sense my unease. He places his hand on my thigh, a gesture both comforting and possessive. His touch is firm, grounding me amidst my swirling thoughts.

“Hey, it’s okay,” he whispers in my ear.

I slide closer to him, my body craving more of his touch.

“Yeah?” I respond cattily.
