I give a short nod, my mind already miles ahead.Quinn, her family, California, the gender reveal party, and all her stuff waiting in that old apartment. Just one week to get everything done.
"Can't believe you're going to be a dad, man," Greig says in disbelief.
I let out a low chuckle. "Yeah, crazy, right? But I'm ready for it."
"I guess I'm never getting my position back, huh?" he jokes.
I shake my head. "Nope, she's made it hers permanently. Though you might get to substitute during her maternity leave, she's adamant about continuing her work even with the new baby."
Quinn's the one, the only one I've ever seen this future with. It's got me thinking beyond just having a baby. I want to give her a ring and anything else she could ever possibly want or need.
"How far along is she?" he asks.
I glance at my watch, a reminder of the appointment that's getting closer. "We find out for sure today. I gotta head out, got a doctor's appointment with her." After one last scan around the office, I see everything is good to go.
I shoot Greig a quick "I'll see you when I get back," and head out to the Bentley truck.
I can't help but speed a little, not wanting to be late to our first appointment. I quickly park and head inside. I spot Quinn waiting in the lobby. "Hey babe," I greet her with a kiss. "Sorry I'm running behind, had to finish up some stuff before we head out tomorrow."
She smiles softly. "No worries. We're all checked in. They should call us soon."
I nod and notice how her body's changing, especially her tits. It's kind of hot, honestly.
She catches my look and raises an eyebrow. "Enjoying the view?"
I grin, "You know I am."
A naughty grin spreads across her face. She leans in to whisper in my ear, requesting something that we use to do before we found out she was pregnant but I'm quick to shut that idea down. "Hold up, not while you're carrying our baby. We're playing it safe, alright?"
Just as she playfully pouts we get called to the back. "Ms. Russo?"
I can't wait until they call her Mrs. Ledger. I'm eager to make her lawfully mine.
As we follow the nurse into the ultrasound room, I can feel Quinn's grip on my hand tighten and I can tell she's nervous. Itry to be that strength that she needs but in reality, I'm nervous as hell too. What if there are two or three little ones in there?
The room is bright and clinical. A woman in a white coat with a badge identifying her as Dr. Emily Harris turns to greet us with a friendly smile.
"Good evening, Ms. Russo, Mr. Ledger, I'm Dr. Harris. I'll be conducting your ultrasound today," she introduces herself, extending a hand. After a brief handshake, she gestures for Quinn to lie down on the examination bed. "How are you both feeling? Excited?"
Quinn gives a nervous laugh. "Surprised but excited, thank you," she says as she settles onto the bed and I pull up a chair beside her, holding her hand.
The doctor begins preparing the ultrasound machine. "You might feel a bit cold from the gel, but it'll help us get a clear picture of the little one." She applies a generous amount of the gel onto Quinn's belly, which makes her inhale sharply at the chill.
"Alright, let's see how your baby is doing," Dr. Harris says, positioning the ultrasound wand on her belly. The room fills with the sound of a steady heartbeat, and I find myself instinctively squeezing Quinn's hand.
On the monitor, a small, life-like form appears, and Dr. Harris begins to explain what we're seeing. "Here's the baby's head, and there, those are the limbs. Everything's developing nicely and on track."
Quinn's eyes are fixed on the screen, a tear escaping as I lean in and kiss her cheek.
As Dr. Harris concludes the examination, she takes a moment to review her notes. "Based on the measurements and development, I'd say you're about eighteen weeks along, which puts you at four and a half months," she explains, marking something on her clipboard.
Quinn and I exchange a quick, stunned look. Eighteen weeks — that timing aligns precisely with our first time together in Nashville. The realization hits us both at once; our life-changing moment has indeed created the new life we're now watching on the screen.
The doctor notices our surprise. "Is everything alright?"
I nod slowly, still processing the news. "Yes, it's just a lot to take in. We didn't realize it happened that soon."
Dr. Harris offers a warm smile. "Would you like to find out the sex of the baby today?" she asks, her hand poised over the keyboard, ready to enter our decision.
