"I was looking over the security camera footage but couldn't find anything. I looked thirty minutes before her shift started, during that time, and around when she got off," Jaxson said. "Nothing. Absolutely nothing."
"What do you mean nothing?"
"Exactly what I mean. No one walked into the employees room around that time. How could the note have gotten there? It can't just magically appear there."
Realization flew across Leo's face. "You think someone tampered with the security footage?"
He nodded his head. "Yes, I do. It was weird to not see anyone enter, especially when people are getting off shifts and coming to start their shift. It was almost like the camera was on a loop around those times."
"But you could see Sofia entering the room?"
"Yes, and leaving when she started her shift. Caught her whole reaction to her reading the letters on camera. It was like they didn't want us to see who placed them but purposefully wanted us to see her reaction. Almost taunting us that they messed things up."
Leo shook his head. "That's not good."
"I sent the footage to the computer wiz, so he could look over it while he is on the plane. They should be here soon. I had your brother go pick them up from the airport."
Everything was messed up. Why would someone want to do this to Sofia? Why was she the target? She had mentioned she didn't know many people and he believed her. She was shy and didn't talk to a lot of people.
Leo stood up from his seat. "If you need anything, you let me know."
"I will. Thank you," Jaxson replied.
"Also, think about what I told you about the Green Card. But also talk with Sofia about it. She is a part of this and needs to be informed but I know you already know that."
He nodded his head. He just needed to figure out how to tell her, get her to listen, and not react.
"How's it going with your mysterious girl?" Jaxson asked before Leo could leave his office.
They had come to him about this girl and he wanted to know if anything had progressed. It wasn't his place to know, but he was curious if Leo would give anything away. Both of themtended to keep to themselves, which was fine, but sometimes it is good for people to talk to other people about it.
"Oliver and I talked and we're going to pursue her. She has no clue yet. We're trying to come up with a game plan. She's fragile. We don't want to damage her any further and send her further into herself."
"Is she safe?" Jaxson asked.
"Yes, she's staying with Michael and Monroe. But she's apparently not doing too well so we may speed up our rough timeline on things."
Jaxson did not envy Leo and Oliver in this situation. It was hard to know what to do in a situation like this, what was the right thing to do.
"If you need anything, let me know," Jaxson said. "I'm here for you guys."
"Thanks. We may need to take a couple days off and it might be short notice," Leo said. "We'll try and plan in advance, but just to let you know."
"No worries. All of us have racked up a good amount of PTO so you take off when you need to, and we'll figure everything out."
"Thank you. Well, I'll see you."
Leo left his office and he relaxed into his chair. There was so much going on, but he had meant what he said to Leo. They looked after each other and made things work in emergency situations, no matter how tough it was.
"Daddy?" Sofia whispered and he looked up to see her standing in his doorway.
"Hi, Little one," he replied. "Come here."
CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO
SOFIA
"Hi Daddy," she whispered as she took a step closer to his desk.
