"They were reminding me that I need to reapply for my work visa or else I was going to get deported."
She didn't like the thought about getting deported, not when she was finally getting comfortable here. Michael and Daddy had said she had a family here and she didn't want to leave here yet.
All three of them stared at her with their eyes wide. She didn’t like how they were all just staring at her. Why were they just staring at her?
Sofia started to fidget on the couch as their eyes bore into her.
“What do you mean?” Daddy asked. “Don’t you have a year? You haven’t been here a year yet or even close to it.”
That was true that a person had a year for their work visa, but that didn't mean her year wasn't almost up.
"I did," she replied.
"When did you apply and get accepted?" Micheal asked as he sat down on the chair in front of her.
"When I originally applied, I thought I was going to get denied but I didn't. So then I had to work more to be able to get a plane ticket but several months had already passed."
Sofia hadn't realized how much time had actually passed since she applied and got accepted. How has almost a year already happened? It felt like yesterday that she had a whole year for her work visa. She wanted to cry with how overwhelming this was. Could her life possibly get any harder?
"I thought I had more time," she whispered, feeling so defeated.
She didn't know if she had enough money to send in the application again. What was she going to do if she didn't? Daddy had said he was going to take care of her, but she didn't want him paying for the application. It was a lot of money, and she didn't want him to waste it on her.
"I'm going to take care of it," Daddy said.
Sofia shook her head. "I can't ask you to do that. It's a lot of money."
"Good thing you didn't ask. I'm going to take care of it. You just fill out the information and I'll cover the cost."
Before she could say anything, Michael started to speak.
"Have you thought about applying for a Green Card?" he asked.
"Yes," she softly said.
"But?" Leo asked.
"But I couldn't yet because it's so expensive and I didn't have the money saved up."
She was so embarrassed that she didn't have enough money to do a lot of things. She was sitting in front of people that had a lot of money and didn't have to worry about things. She wasn't that lucky.
"I'll be taking care of that too," Daddy said.
"No," Sofia replied. "You aren't doing that. It's a lot of money."
She knew he had money, but that didn't mean he needed to spend it on her. Especially for her Green Card. She needed to do this herself.
Daddy gripped her chin and brought her head to look at him. "You are mine and I take care of what is mine."
She opened her mouth to argue, but he raised his eyebrow at her, and she closed her mouth. He meant business.
"I'll look into the Green Card things and see your options," Leo said. "Give me a day and I'll get back to you."
"Thank you," Daddy replied.
Sofia wanted to argue and tell Leo that she had already done her research, but she knew that it would fall on deaf ears. When these men said they were going to do something, there was no changing their mind. And Sofia was starting to realize that.
"Little girl, you get some rest, eat, and drink enough," Michael said as he got up from his chair. "And stay safe. Listen to your Daddy and don't get into trouble."
