Safe.

Comfortable.

Protected.

All the things she hadn’t felt in a while and he was making her feel with just a hug. She was worried that if things went sour between them, that she would lose this and she didn’t want that to happen.

Not when she just started to feel this way.

“Now, let’s talk about our dynamic,” he said. “Do you want to sit on my lap or on the couch?”

She so badly wanted to sit on his lap again, but she knew if she did, she would either fall asleep or not be able to pay attention at all. Her cheeks flushed at that thought.

“Ah, what’s that thought?” he asked.

“The couch, please,” she softly said, ignoring his question.

“Naughty thoughts?”

She blushed even more and made her way over towards the couch and sat down; him sitting right next to her.

“Now, I know you feel the spark between us. I’ve asked before and we both can agree on that. The other night you had been hesitant and I want to know why,” he said. “Do you think you can tell me?”

She took a deep breath. She didn’t really want to tell him why, but she knew communication was important and in this instance, she really needed to do it. He wasn’t going to let this slide, and they needed to have this conversation.

“People will start talking about it,” she softly said. “What if people think I’m just dating you to get benefits from you being my boss?”

That was the last thing she wanted someone to do. She didn’t want any special treatment and make the other people hate her. Though, she knew Monty wouldn’t do that, but Lucy definitely would.

“No one will talk or think bad about you. This has happened a lot more than you think, people who work here finding someone they want to be with. If someone is being mean and making nasty comments, you come to me or one of the other owners right away,” he said. “What are your other concerns?”

“What if this doesn’t work?” she whispered. “Will I be out of a job? I love working here and I don’t want to risk losing it.”

Sofia felt him grab her hand.

“If this doesn’t work out, which I know it will, you will still have your job here. We are mature adults who can do this,” he said. “And if we can’t, then someone else will take over scheduling so you can continue to work here.”

Her mouth fell open at that. He was going to get someone else to schedule the employees if they didn’t work out? Oh my goodness. Part of her didn’t believe he would actually do it. Butthe other part of her knew he was being serious and he was going to do what he said.

“I,” she started to speak, but stopped herself. What was she supposed to say to that?

“I never want you to think that your job will be in jeopardy if we start a dynamic together. No matter what happens between us, you’ll still have your job here,” he said.

“Thank you?” she sounded so unsure. Was she supposed to say thank you or was she supposed to change the subject and move on?

Jaxson chuckled and looked at her. “Do you have any other concerns or hesitations?”

She shrugged her shoulders. She couldn’t think of anything right now, but that didn’t mean she didn’t have any concerns or hesitations.

“I don’t know,” she whispered, looking down at her hands.

“That’s okay. If you ever have anything, come to me and we’ll talk about it,” he replied. “But if you need anything, and I mean anything, please let me know. You have my phone number and I’ll always answer.”

She nodded her head and let out a yawn. She was exhausted, but she still had at least thirty minutes left in her shift that she needed to do.

“We can talk about rules, hard limits, soft limits, and all of that tomorrow before you come into work. You need to go home and get some rest,” he said.

Sofia shook her head. She couldn’t go home right now, she still had part of her shift to finish.
