“I already have a ride and they should be here by now.”

He didn’t want to let her go with whoever her ride was. He wanted to be the one to take her home and make sure she was in her place safely.

“Okay, give me one second and I’ll walk out with you,” he said.

Jaxson needed to tell one of the other owners he would be right back. Sofia pushed herself off of him and stood up and he followed suit.

“Let me go tell Michael and I’ll walk you out. Sit here and don’t leave until I walk with you,” he said.

He quickly made his way over towards Michael.

“I’m taking Sofia to her ride outside but I’ll be back,” he said.

But when Jaxson turned around to walk back towards her, she was nowhere to be found. Oh, she was going to be in trouble.

CHAPTER TWELVE

SOFIA

Sofia felt exhausted when she came to work today and that was hours ago. She still had thirty minutes to an hour left of her shift and she didn’t know how she was going to make it through, but she had to. She needed the money.

When she had gotten to work, Monty had told her Jaxson was looking for her. Sofia knew what it was about, or well, part of it at least. She was supposed to wait for him to walk her out last night, but she left before he could do that.

Sofia didn’t want him to know she didn’t actually have a ride, and that she was walking to her apartment building. He would’ve insisted that he give her a ride and she wasn’t ready for him to see where she was living. It wasn’t in the best location, but it also wasn’t a terrible location.

But Sofia had a feeling that if Jaxson saw it, he wouldn’t approve and would try to get her to go somewhere else. She didn’t have money to move anywhere else and she didn’t want to take his money.

Any time he had walked into the room, she always made sure she was super busy so he couldn’t talk to her. Or she would hide but she knew that wouldn’t last for a long time and, sooner or later, he was going to talk to her.

They still had to talk about the spark between them and what they were going to do about it. She didn’t know what to do now. She knew if they got into a dynamic, he was going to ask several questions. Questions she didn’t want to answer and show how much she was struggling with money.

She didn’t want him to take pity on her.

“When are you going to talk to him?” Monty asked.

“I don’t know,” she softly replied, sounding so unsure. “He’s not going to be happy when I talk to him.”

“You ignoring him is just going to make it worse.”

Sofia knew that, but she had already managed to ignore him for several hours. He must be livid by now and she didn’t want to face his wrath.

“Maybe he’ll fire you,” Lucy sneered at her as she walked by. “Good riddance.”

Monty turned towards Lucy and glared at her.

“You really need to tell Jaxson or any of the other club owners about Lucy being mean towards you,” Monty said. “It’s unacceptable.”

“It’s fine. She’ll get over it soon and she hasn’t done anything bad yet,” Sofia replied.

“Yet. Just wait until she does do something. Who knows how bad that’s going to be.”

Sofia knew Monty was right and she probably should tell someone about it, but she didn’t want to create any problems. Jaxson was already mad at her and she didn’t want to give him another reason.

He had told her to come to him if anyone was being rude and she hadn’t.

She was just adding another thing to the list of him being mad at her for. If he found out about that, but if she kept her mouth shut, maybe he wouldn’t find out about it.

“If you don’t tell him soon, I will,” Monty said.
