Her eyes went wide with the mention of Monty's name. Why would they think she would want to do something bad to her? They were great friends and had helped each other on multiple occasions.
She slipped the pacifier out of her mouth and held it as she sat on her Daddy's lap.
"No," Sofia said. "She wouldn't do anything to me."
Everyone was silent and Sofia couldn't help but speak again.
"Lucy on the other hand," she mumbled more to herself. She couldn't help it because Lucy was a problem.
Antonio raised his eyebrow at her, and she looked down at her lap. She shouldn't have said anything, but she couldn't stopherself. They were talking about who it could possibly be, and Lucy was a person in her mind that could be behind it.
"What did you just say?" Antonio asked.
"Look at him when you speak to him," Daddy said right after.
She looked up and stared at Antonio. Was she really about to talk to them about Lucy? Her Daddy had already mentioned Lucy to them, but they didn't know what all had happened. There was so much more than just the rude comment she made the other day, after she had been mugged.
"I said Lucy's name," she softly said. "I wouldn't be surprised if she was behind this. It honestly would make sense."
"Why do you say that?" Daddy asked.
She started to fidget in his lap, not knowing what to say. She didn't like saying mean things about people or really talking about people and how they were rude. Sofia just wanted to forget about it and pretend like it never happened.
Why dwell on what happened when she couldn’t go back and change it. There wasn’t any point and Sofia knew that she should’ve gone to her Daddy about this, Monty had even said that, but she didn’t want to get him involved. He was their employer, but he was also her Daddy. What would people think when they saw him scolding an employee on her behalf?
Favoritism.
That was what she thought people would say. The whispers when they saw it, but it wouldn’t be true. Lucy had been rude to her, several times.
"Sofia," Daddy said. "Why?"
"I don't want to say bad things about her," she whispered.
"I need to know so I can do my job well," Antonio said. "We won't judge you for telling us what she said or did to you, but we do need to know."
Sofia looked up at her Daddy, almost looking for permission to tell them what Lucy had said to her. He nodded his head and she relaxed a little.
"I'm here for you," he softly said. "Go ahead and tell them."
CHAPTER THIRTY-NINE
SOFIA
Sofia closed her eyes and she tried to relax in her Daddy's embrace. Right now, she had wished she listened to Monty several weeks ago, after Lucy told her that Jaxson was going to fire her. She had been rude to her, and Monty told her to tell Jaxson about it, but she hadn't. Nothing had happened yet, and she didn't want to do anything to make it worse.
Oh, how she wished she could go back in time. Maybe none of this would've happened if she went to her Daddy and told him that Lucy was looking at her meanly and being rude.
"Little one?" Daddy said. "Are you okay?"
She nodded her head. "Sorry, Daddy. Spaced out."
"No worries. Let us know when you're ready," Antonio said.
The sooner she told them, the sooner she would be able to get this over with. Everything. Part of Sofia hoped that it was Lucy so this could be over, but part of her felt bad for wishing that on someone.
"She had just said some rude things to me and given me mean looks," Sofia said.
"What has she said to you?" Daddy asked.
