I stepped into the Seaside just as Colin was approaching the door.
“Adalyn.” His face lit up. “I was just going to call you.”
“You were?” I smiled.
“Yeah. I have to go and pick up some cases of alcohol. The delivery truck broke down, and now the distributor doesn’t know when they’ll be able to get it to me. So Scott and I are going to hop in one of his delivery trucks and pick it up ourselves. It’s about a two-hour drive from here, so I won’t be back until late tonight. What are you doing here? Did we have dinner plans that I forgot about?”
“No.” I smiled as I placed my hand on his chest. “I was just coming to see you. That’s all.”
“You’re so sweet. I’m sorry. I wish I could stay, but I have to go.”
“It’s totally fine. Go. I understand. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“You’re the best.” His lips kissed mine.
CHAPTER31
Adalyn
Olivia showed up at the gallery for work at precisely nine a.m. and brought Louis and me a coffee from Rooster’s.
“Thank you, darling.” Luis smiled. “That was nice of you. I hope Delilah wasn’t too mean to you.”
“Luis!” I barked.
“It’s okay. She hasn’t been the friendliest to me since I came back. But it is what it is. I just hope the people in this town will get over it one day.”
“Luis will show you around the gallery and explain how we work things, and then I’ll have you fill out some paperwork. Thanks for the coffee, by the way.”
“You’re welcome.”
Luis took Olivia and showed her around. My phone rang, and Colin’s name appeared.
“Good morning.”
“Good morning, beautiful. How did you sleep?”
“Not too bad. How was your road trip with Scott?”
“Exhausting. We didn’t get back until two a.m. Now, I need to get into the bar and put all that alcohol away. Dinner tonight?”
“Definitely. How about my place around seven?” I spoke.
“I’ll see you then. Will you do me a favor?”
“Of course. What?”
“Have a great day.”
A smile crossed my lips. “I will, but only if you will.”
“I definitely will now. I’ll talk to you later.”
“Bye, Colin.”
I ended the call and sighed as I set my phone down. Looking out the window, I saw Annie starting to cross the street, and I knew she was coming to the gallery. I couldn’t risk her seeing Olivia because then it would get back to Colin before I had the chance to tell him, so I intercepted her by running out the door.
“Annie.” I smiled as I hooked my arm around hers. “I was just coming over to see you.”
