She hated the fact that it bothered her. It wasn’t like they were in a frigging relationship, but hell, after the heated make-out session in the kitchen, he had said, “to be continued.”
Apparently, the hot sexting session was the continued bit, because since then? Silence. OK, she’d had make out sessions before and never seen the guys again but, shit, this was Tyler. They worked together and she expected better. A simple “hey, how are you” would have been nice. Now, she felt a little used and a little awkward. It was probably for the best they hadn’t taken things any further. No way she wanted to become the subject of office gossip and, perhaps, Tyler was feeling the same way. But that was no excuse for not reaching out and, yeah, he should be the one to reach out. Especially after what he’d done to her on the phone. Christ, just thinking about it made her more aroused than she wanted to admit.
Sighing, Mira focused back on the file in front of her. Dex and Kelly were hosting a barbecue this afternoon. Using a prior commitment as an excuse, she’d declined the invitation. Her phone pinged, interrupting her thoughts. Glancing at the screen, her stomach flipped when she saw Tyler’s name.
Tyler: Hey Mira.
That’s it? Hey Mira? Weeks had gone by and he comes back with that? Well, screw him. She put down the phone without answering and went back to work. Twenty minutes later, another ping.
Tyler: Mira? Xx
Seriously, is he kidding? Ignoring it again, she continued. Another twenty minutes, another ping.
Tyler: Where are you? Talk to me. Xx
Oh, now he wanted to talk, when it suited him. He was probably at Dex’s, wondering why she wasn’t there. Perhaps he’d been hoping for a quickie. Turning back to the files, she tried to focus, but it was becoming difficult. A part of her wanted to answer him and tell him what she thought about his behavior. Ten minutes this time.
Tyler: Are you upset with me?
OK, that did it. Hitting reply, she thought about what to say. She wasn’t upset, and she didn’t want him to think she was sitting here crying over him.
Mira: I’m not upset, just disappointed.
His response was instant.
Tyler: Disappointed in me?
Mira: Yes.
Tyler: Why?
Mira: You may think it’s OK to ghost someone after what we did. I don’t. I guess I just expected better from you.
Tyler: I wasn’t ghosting you. We’ve been in back-to-back training and ops, you know that. I was planning on talking to you today, but you’re not here.
Mira: Tyler, it takes two minutes to text someone. I’m sure you found time to text Ryan, see how he was doing. There’s no excuse for it.
There was a long pause before Tyler responded.
Tyler: You’re right. I’m sorry. I should have texted or called you. That was wrong of me.
Mira: Let’s just forget it, we work together, better we go back to how things were.
Tyler: I don’t want to forget it. Didn’t you have fun?
Mira paused. That was the problem. It had been a lot of fun. If she was honest with herself, she did want more, but no matter how hot he was, this was a bad idea.
Mira: It was fun, but it’s done. Enjoy the barbecue
Tyler: Don’t say that. Give me a chance to do better.
Mira: Why should I?
Tyler: Because you enjoyed it as much as I did, and you want more.
The cocky son of a bitch. Mira couldn’t help the smile on her face. Damn him!
Mira: Just where do you see this going?
