“I should go and pay a visit to Sara. Would you like to come with me?”
He gives me a brief glance before returning his eyes to hers.
"I'm busy today, mom. Just send her my love."
She gives him a frown.
"Come on, Arlo. Wren will be fine here for a couple of hours with Cree; after all,
Isn't that what she's paid for? Your sister could certainly use your support right now.”
"Sure I am! I was thinking we could bake some cookies today, Cree!
After saying that, I glance down at Cree.
"Would you like that?"
He shouts excitedly.
"Yay!"
I giggle as he bounces up and down on my hip, and when I return my eyes to Arlo's, he sighs and looks away, speaking flatly.
"One hour."
I place Cree down on his feet so he can wave off his dad and grandma, and then we walk to the kitchen together.
"Let's see what we have here to make those cookies!"
He tilts his head back to look up at me and takes my hand.
"Can we make one for Daddy?"
I smile down at him as I respond.
"Of course we can! Have you ever baked cookies before?"
He gives a cheeky nod
.
"With Aunt Sara and Grandma, yes."
"Okay, great!"
Once everything is prepared, I take a tall kitchen chair and place it against the counter before lifting Cree and carrying him to the sink.
"First, let us wash our hands. We'd like to get rid of all those nasty germs!"
After that, I position him on the tall chair in front of all the ingredients, and we start to mix them in a mixing bowl. As expected, we seem to make quite a mess, but this only adds to the fun.
"All we have to do now is roll them into even balls and place them on the baking tray."
To demonstrate how to do it, I scoop some of it into my hand and roll it into a ball, and then I giggle as I see him attempt to do the same.
By mistake, we make them all different sizes and arrange them on the baking sheet until there is no more dough left. I preheat the oven and then place them inside when it's ready.
"Okay, that's it! Let's get you cleaned up, and they'll be ready soon!"
