Carlo was already planning for the future.
He took me upstairs and showed me the rooms. And the last place he guided me to was his bedroom. Oh, my gosh. The bed was gorgeous.
And the room was enormous.
The décor was all grays and browns. A huge chandelier hung in the middle of the high ceiling. I’d never seen such beautiful crown moldings in my life.
It was truly dreamy.
“This is our room,” he said with his hands on my hips. I always got a secret thrill whenever he said, “our” about something.
Yes, I knew who all of this really belonged to.
Even so, it was fun to imagine I actually had a bedroom like this.
In a castle like this.
I smiled at that thought.
“Maybe Sophia and the driver can take the kids for a little drive before supper.” His lips landed on my neck. I gasped and leaned back into him.
His hardness poked me, and I smiled widely. “You always come up with the best ideas, honey.” My hands moved up his arms and folded behind his neck. As his lips found mine, his hands found my breasts. He rubbed me and played with my breasts until a deep ache started down below.
“Yes, we’re going to find your momma, sweetie. Don’t worry,” Eve’s voice echoed from down the hall.
Carlo sighed into my mouth, and his hands slid back down to my hips. “Later.” He gave me one more quick kiss before letting me go.
I watched him wander off toward the closet as he adjusted himself.
“Oh, here she is,” Eve said from the doorway.
I hurried up to them. My poor little girl looked sad and confused.
“Aww, my baby.” I reached for Dani, and she jumped into my arms and cried. “It’s okay, it’s okay.” I rocked her and patted her back. She kept a tight hold on her stuffed bunny. “Shh, it’s okay.” I kissed her tear-stained cheeks.
“What’s going on?” Carlo asked from the doorway to the closet. He had clothes draped over his arm that he’d picked out.
“She’s just cranky and confused, I think,” I told him while I walked her around the room.
Dani’s head turned to Carlo, and she screamed, “Dada!” Her little arms shot out in his direction, the stuffed bunny hanging from one hand. I could barely hold on to her little, shaking body.
“What’s wrong, Daniella?” Carlo asked as he took her from me.
Dani grabbed his shirt with her hands and held on tight. “Dada, Dada,” she repeated over and over again while rubbing her tear-stained face into his chest.
“She’s terrified.” He stood there and stared at me. It didn’t seem like he knew what to do either.
Suddenly, we heard more crying down in the hallway. “Oh, I have to go deal with them, bye.” Eve waved at us with a worried look on her face and rushed out the door.
“What should I do?” Carlo asked me, as if I’d know. But that was the problem—I didn’t.
“I don’t know.” My voice barely carried over her cries. “Maybe it’s the house? It’s unfamiliar to her. Plus, none of the kids slept well on the plane.” I offered him some answers—but I didn't know if any of them were correct.
He nodded at me and turned around. “Do you like Dada’s house, Daniella?” He kissed the side of her face.
She cried even harder. “No, no, scary!”
He swung his head back to me. When his eyes hit mine, he nodded. “Okay, how about Dada shows you the house? Maybe that will help.”
