No, this wasn’t good.

Her mouth suddenly went dry, and she wanted a drink so badly.

Grayson knew he shouldn’t be listening in on his daughter’s conversations during a sleepover. He had prided himself on not getting involved in anything to do with his daughter, and this was wrong on every level. He’d heard them squealing and giggling as he walked down the hallway and heard them talking about girls selling their virginity. Things had sure changed since he was in college.

However, talk of selling virginity did pique his interest. He followed Clara down to the kitchen where he heard her muttering to herself. He’d been unable to deny himself.

“What?” she asked.

“You heard me.”

Her face was bright red. He found it cute.

“You want to know if I’m a virgin?” she asked.

“You claim you’re not a whore, and April has even told me you don’t date. So, call me curious.” He didn’t like the thought of another man or boy touching her.

Hell, no. Clara wasn’t going to be touched by anyone but him.

He watched as she held her head high and looked him straight in the eyes. “Yes. I’m a virgin, but I’m sure you don’t believe it anyway. So, it doesn’t matter.”

Grayson took a step toward her, invading her personal space. He took the drinks from her hands, so she didn’t spill them. He was very much aware of her mother’s financial situation. It bothered him.

“Then how about you and I make a deal? One you will never tell April about.”

“Deal?”

“I pay off all your mother’s debts, I even pay for you to finish college.”

“What do you want?” Clara asked.

Now would have been the perfect time to tell her to stay out of April’s life, but he had a feeling she wouldn’t do that. Also, he knew April would be upset if Clara just stopped seeing her without any reason whatsoever.

So, he had a new way of getting what he wanted.

April would be moving out soon and finding her own path in life. It meant he wasn’t going to get the chance to see Clara much, if ever. Then there was the chance of her finding someone else.

He could handle a business deal. Paying Clara for her virginity would be easy. He’d be able to get her out of his system, move on, and forget about her.

He never gave a woman a chance to get close. Women knew the score with him, not that there had been one in over three years. He refused to believe it was because he’d met Clara and she’d dominated every sexual thought he had during that time.

“I want your virginity,” he said, pressing her up against the kitchen counter. She reached out, grabbing the edge. “Seems popular with college girls these days, so you won’t be alone.”

He saw the white-knuckled grip she had on the counter and he smiled.

“You’re crazy. And there’s no way you’re serious.”

“You have until tomorrow morning to give me your decision. April likes to sleep in, but I know you like to be up early.” He had caught her cleaning up their messes plenty of times. Of course, Clara doesn’t know that, and he doubted his daughter knew her best friend cleaned the house after them.

Clara’s eyes went wide as he reached out and grabbed her waist.

“Why?”

“Why what?”

“Why are you doing this?” she asked. “I don’t understand.”
