His tone is cutting, and he tries to belittle me with his stare, but no fucker scares me.
His eyes roam down her body and land on my hand that now rests against her hip. I find it rather amusing that she hasn’t tried to move it away.
“Get your hands off her,” he growls as he stands. Granted, he is big and probably played football in college until he took up a corporate career in the city.
I shake my head and smile at him.
Her nose twitches as she turns to me. “What are you doing?” she mouths.
“I’m taking you home. Now tell him to leave you alone.” If I can do anything for her, it’s getting rid of this asshole.
She narrows her eyes, and she smiles, understanding I’m here to help her. She turns back to her shitty ex. “Toby, just go.”
“No. We’re going to talk.”
“We’ve talked... and talked. We’re over. You need to leave me alone.”
His gaze twists to me. “We’re not over.” As much as the words are to Holly, they’re also meant for me.
“The lady told you to leave, now fucking leave,” I whisper-hiss as I lean toward him.
“Who the fuck are you, anyway?”
“Her boyfriend...” The word comes out before I have the chance to realize what I’m saying.
“I’m her boyfriend,” he says, turning to Holly. “Are you cheating on me?”
“Oh my god, you are delusional. You cheated on me. We are not a couple and never will be. And you...” She takes my hand from her hip as she turns to me, tilts her head and stares for a moment. Her nose twitches as she takes me in with narrowed eyes. “I don’t need a random stranger to help me out.”
“Don’t pretend last night meant nothing to you.”
She laughs, rolling her eyes to the sky before shaking her head. “Okay. But honestly, you haven’t got a clue.”
I laugh. She has no idea who I am.
“What’s going on?” Toby asks, his voice quite a few lower octaves than it was before.
“Tell him,” I growl.
She rolls her eyes and turns to him. “I met him last night at my Christmas party. I just never expected to see him again.”
I’m finding it hilarious that she doesn’t recognize me. Strange how jeans and a tee-shirt make a man look so much more different from an expensive three-piece suit.
“Yes, and you ran out on me like Cinderella,” I say, watching her beautiful mouth curl into a lovely smile.
“What the hell Holly? The guy is probably twice your age. He’s probably mated omegas galore. He’ll have children older than you.”
“I’m thirty four, asshole.”
“It’s only a twelve year difference.” She points a nude painted fingernail at him. “And after you, younger alphas just don’t have what it takes.”
He whips his gaze from me to her. His chest heaving. “We’ll speak later.”
“Leave her alone,” I grunt.
“She’s mine, old man.Mine.”
“I’m nobody’s, Toby. Now get that into your head.” She turns and stares at my face, narrowing her eyes as she studies me for a moment. Trying to look behind the sunglasses that are hiding my eyes, as she tries to imagine what I’ll look like without the morning stubble.
