I shrug my shoulders. “But why if she thought we were scent matched?”
Aiden groans into my hair. “I told her she was mine and I would find her.”
“You mean you went psycho on her?” I murmur.
He exhales deeply through his nose. “Possessive, not psycho.”
“And that’s why you wanted revenge on the girl who stood you up.”
“On the omega who haunted my dreams,” he replies. “Your scent made my alpha do crazy things. I needed therapy for nearly two years. I couldn’t eat, sleep... I bought a property in Beverly Hills so I could continue my search in Los Angeles for you. And then one day, I searched the OmegaFans app for you again. This time I widened my search to the whole country. And there you were, looking the same, but dressed more provocatively than before and you’d moved to New York.”
“And that’s when you started stalking me?”
At least he has the decency to cast his eyes downward. “Yes, for a while I stalked you. I did it while I waited until my alpha was calm because I was desperate for you. Your scent in the elevator was suffocating and no doubt before my therapy I probably would’ve kidnapped you. Trouble was, I never turned calm, I turned vengeful. I just wanted revenge. I wanted you to hurt the same way you hurt me.”
“I never hurt you.” My voice drifts off as I wonder what he would’ve done without the help he got.
“I know that now. And Ivy never hurt me intentionally, either.”
“Yet you hurt me,” I whisper.
He sighs. “Because I struggled with what I thought were more lies from you. Now I realize it was your sister who wanted a pack, and a scent match.”
I nod. “Ivy made me promise to try to find my scent match after I stole the sweater from her. I kept picking it up and pressing my nose against it, and one day when I was upset I took it.”
Aiden swallows, the gulp echoing in the quiet room. “Because she knew I was out there and she wanted you to find me. And she sent me your tee shirt to let me know the same thing.”
He smiles.
“Possibly, but you still tried to hurt me.”
“And I wanted to. You lived in my head for years. For three years, you drove me fucking crazy. You... It was your scent, not your sister’s...” He blinks hard and then looks back at me. “And yes. I wanted you to hurt like I did, but the more I was with you, the more I knew I could never hurt you. You’re my soulmate. The omega I’ve searched for since I knew you were out there. I’m sorry for everything I did, Holly. I’m sorry for hurting you. For hurting your sister.”
Chapter 35
Aiden
Myheartishammeringat my rib cage, threatening to burst out of my chest as I wait. It feels like it’s taking forever for her to respond and accept my mistake.
Her eyes flit around the room as internal thoughts take over her mind. I don’t want her to talk herself out of us and after everything I did, I don’t want to demand anything of her either.
“Don’t do this.”
“Do what?”
“Make me want you. Make me believe in you,” she whispers.
I take a deep breath as I run my hands through my hair. “Believe it. I want you. You took a spot in my head and refused to leave. My therapist gave me all the tools to forget about you forever. Instead, I searched for you. I wanted you. I never knew quite how much at first.” She rolls her eyes to the ceiling. “And don’t think I’m letting you go now because it’s not happening.”
She laughs. “Because you say so.”
“No.” I tilt my chin high and take hold of her arms. “Because you’re mine. You come only for me. Your slick is mine. Your pussy takes only my knot. Now stop being so fucking stubborn. You know you want to kiss me.”
She chuckles. “It’s hard not to laugh when you go from sorry to possessive within a couple of minutes.”
”Iamsorry. Please give us a chance.”
“Maybe I want you to grovel a little more. I like to see your grumpy face when I’m not doing what you want me to.”
