I sipped my hot chocolate. “Mmmm, this is yummy. Where did you get it?”
“Mom went to London in the summer and brought it all the way back from Fortnum & Masons.”
“I’d kill for hot chocolate that tastes this good.”
“You can come and have some any time you want. I have plenty,” she smiled. “So, what’s bothering you?”
“Why do you think something’s bothering me?”
“Uh, your face is all melted like you’ve been crying and you look harassed, like your brain wants to explode.”
She was good at reading me.
“Oh, just the usual stuff. I’ve been thinking about Adam a lot, missing him.”
“I can imagine.”
“Only now there’s a major complication.”
“Uh-oh.”
“Yeah. I met someone.”
“A boy?” Beany just about hit the roof with excitement.
“More like a man. A real man, half American, half Greek, all muscled and toned, with the face of a Greek God. And so sweet and sexy,” I sighed.
“Holy cow! You lucky biatch! Who is he? Tell me all about him!”
I shifted to get more comfortable on the floor. “His name is Christos Ianthos, he’s a grad student doing his Masters in Classics, and he’s 24, and the most incredible piece of manhood I’ve ever met in my life.”
Beany wiped her brow. “Uh, does he have a brother? Or a sister? I don’t mind, either way.”
I laughed. “He has a younger sister who’s studying law at Yale.”
“Is he dreamy!”
“So dreamy. His kisses are…” I bit my lip as I imagined his kisses.
“You’ve kissed him???”
“Uh, yeah. And now I feel all guilty because I feel like I’m cheating on Adam.”
“Hold up sister! We’ll have none of that talk.” She softened her voice and spoke quietly. “Adam is dead, Amber. He’s not coming back. He would want to you to go off and be happy. Especially if the guy looks like a Greek god and treats you right.”
I looked at her, unconvinced. “Are you sure about that?”
“Well, I can’t channel the dead, so I don’t know exactly what Adam’s thinking, but from what you’ve told me, it’s clear that he loved you and always put you first. So, logic tells me that he would want you to be happy. He wouldn’t want you to be alone, moping around all day.”
“I guess you’re right.”
“You know I’m right, girlfriend. So go after that Greek god and bounce on his cock for a while. I guarantee you’ll feel a whole lot better.”
I laughed at the mental picture of me bouncing on Christos’ cock as if on a trampoline. Then I realized that I would dearly love to be doing that. Maybe it was time to say a final goodbye to Adam. I still wanted to find the truth about his death. He deserved that so we could put the memories of his last day of life to rest. But I was ready to find joy in my life again. Beany was right. Adam had loved me and would have wanted me to move on forward and find happiness again. I had been miserable and in pain for so long that I didn’t know what it was to enjoy myself anymore. Christos had brought that out in me again, made me interested in the living.
Yes, it was time to join the living. Time to move on from lost love.
