Things might escalate, and it’s better to keep her out of it.

“Where do we go first, Boss?” Vito says, anxious to leave.

“I’m waiting for a phone call.”

“All right,” he says, unable to sit still.

He glances at the clock on the wall.

“I’ll know in a few minutes. Get a drink or something. You’re making everybody nervous.”

He pushes to his feet, goes to the bar, and pours himself a drink.

“Anyone else wants one? Boss?”

I click my tongue.

“No. Nothing for me.”

They get their drinks while I review some footage on one of the screens.

The cameras installed across Carmina’s aunt’s house had streamed up until they disabled them sometime around seven o’clock this morning.

New cameras surveil the woman’s house, Jen’s house, and her father’s place. Something tells me Joe’s men can’t be too far.

They may have Tina and Jen in a secret house.

I have a list of all the places where they could hide the woman and the girl. They could also use a location that is not on my list. Although, I doubt they know that I know everything about them and their moves.

In all fairness, I was blindsided by their first move, and now that I think about it, the whole thing might’ve been set in motion by what went down in Reno.

What happened there told them Carmina Leto was important to me, and they could use her as leverage. Another reason for having Carmina under protection in Las Vegas.

The men start chatting while I focus on the screens in front of me.

A car rolls closer to Carmina’s place. A truck. That must be her father.

He pulls into the driveway and turns off the engine before exiting the car.

A woman accompanies him.

They’re quiet and walk separately like they don’t have much to share or they’ve just had a fight.

Soon after, the lights come on in the house, and nothing else happens.

I move my eyes to Edith’s house.

The place is dark. The woman sleeps at a friend's house. I suggested it was better to stay away from her place.

The third house is where they picked up Jen.

When my men checked the place, they found the living room and kitchen trashed. I believe that’s where they had her.

Jen found her phone and called Carmina before they got to her.

Brave woman.

She’s lucky they needed her, or she’d be dead by now.
