“I’m good.”
I’d also rather be anywhere else and hoped that once Julien got there, he wouldn’t want to stay for long and we could leave. Whoever set up the sound system must have turned the bass setting to max. The headache I was sporting thumped to the same beat as the music.
“Don’t feel like you have to babysit me all night. When your guy gets here, go have some fun. Let loose. Dirty dance. Drink and be merry. You’ve been moping all night.”
I had, but I didn’t realize it’d been that obvious.
Facing me, Ash slowly walked backward toward the back French doors that led to the kitchen. “I mean it.” His smile grew, and he pointed at me. “Get this man laid. At least two orgasms.”
He said the last part loudly, and my face flamed crimson in utter embarrassment when two girls standing nearby stopped talking and set their inebriated sights directly on me.
“Ash, for fuck’s sake.”
“Why is your roommate trying to get you laid?”
Of course, Julien would show up right at that moment.
“Ash saw you behind me, didn’t he?” I said when he bent over the lounger I was sitting on.
I tilted my head back and grinned at his upside-down face. The early night sky dusted with a smattering of stars framed his face perfectly. He smelled fantastic and looked even better. I melted into his nickel-gray eyes as they gazed down at me, and the stuff with my mom from earlier faded into the background until there was only him.
Julien erased the distance and fused our mouths together. Our tongues touched, and I sighed into our kiss. It wasn’t a kiss to arouse but one of comfort. Like coming home. And in every way that mattered, Julien was my home.
He brushed his nose to mine. So fucking sweet. Without knowing yet what was wrong, somehow, he unconsciously knew exactly what I needed.
“Hi.”
I cupped his face to keep him there. “Hi back.”
“How long have you been here?”
My eyes squinted to the side as I thought about it but gave up when I couldn’t remember the exact time I got there.
“Not too long. How did the post-game interviews go?”
He kissed the tip of my nose, my lips, and my forehead before pulling away and coming around the lounger. I scooted over to make room for him to sit. Instead, he hooked one long, muscled leg over me until he was able to straddle my lap. Sitting on my thighs, he braced his arms on either side of my head, his fingers curling around the top of the lounge chair.
People were openly watching. I could feel their stares, and I didn’t give a single shit. My hands moved to Julien’s hips. The way he was sitting on me was one of our favorite sex positions, except I was usually the one on top riding him.
“Weird because I’m not used to people asking me questions. I also don’t like the attention. I just want to play the game.”
Julien scored two of the three goals that helped the CU Wildcats take the win. I was immensely proud of him.
“You deserve the attention. You were amazing today.”
Jayson live-streamed the game for their parents to watch since they couldn’t make it. Since a copy would be saved to his social account, I wanted to rewatch it since I missed the kickoff.
“Yeah?” The corner of his mouth curved in an adorable half-smile.
“Why don’t we get out of here and I’ll show you just how amazing.”
It was worth a try, and I wasn’t at all surprised when he laughed and said, “I just got here. Jay around?”
“I’ve been out here the entire time and haven’t seen him or Ryder for a while.”
Julien blew out a breath. “I hope Ry is keeping him away from the beer keg.”
I didnotneed another night of taking care of my drunk friends. And Jayson did promise me at the beach he would tone down on the alcohol consumption. I wasn’t going to hold my breath though.
