“Tonight is meant to be your evening. You don’t need to hear what is going on in my life.”
“I wouldn’t be your best friend if I didn’t worry about you.”
I felt the tears start to come, the worry coming out all at once. My heart started to palpitate as I started to shake, and the fear and concern I had been feeling earlier came back with a vengeance. Sienna got up from her chair, took Ben from my hands, and placed him in his crib, coming back over to me and engulfing me in a hug.
“What’s happened?”
How the hell did I explain everything to my best friend?
“Where do I start?”
I explained everything to Sienna. How I kept receiving letters and flowers from notes from this secret admirer. How he had turned up at photoshoots but had been scared off when people started to ask questions, but no one knew who the guy was. All anyone could say was he was tall, around six foot, dark-haired, clean-shaven, and always wore sunglasses, so they never got to see his eyes or his full face. However, more recently, he had just had the items delivered and no one had said they had seen him around. I felt my anxiety growing as I ran through all of the events, not helping my already racing heart.
“But I think the thing that has worried me the most was today. I went home to see Michelle and have her do my nails and facial, and the receptionist came up with a bunch of white roses for me from my secret admirer. I can’t work out how he knew I was going to be there, or even how he knew where I used to live. I have never let that kind of information out into the world. The only people who know my real name are my friends, family, my PA, and the owner of the agency.”
Sienna sat there looking at me with a worried expression.
“Abigail, you need to do something about this. This could become serious very quickly. Have you been to the police?”
“Yes, and they just said there was nothing they could do, as whoever it is hasn’t made any threats towards me. What can I do?”
I saw her sitting there contemplating. I knew there wasn’t anything that could be done, so what she said next really shocked me.
“Why don’t you speak to Jayden? I’m sure he could get one of his team to be a bodyguard for you. In fact, Kye – who saved me – would be perfect. He is a bit rough around the edges and has a bad boy image, but I think he is exactly who you need. No one is going to mess with him. I’ll have a word with—”
“Sienna, I don’t think I’m at that stage yet. No one has threatened me.”
“But, Abigail, what if he escalates quickly? You might not get a chance to put anyone in place to help you. I really think you should think about this.”
I sat there for a moment. I knew Sienna was right. I might not get a chance. But did I really want to bring a man into my life as protection? I wasn’t sure if I could have someone living in my flat, especially as it was only a one-bedroom. I had plenty of money, but didn’t bother with a fancy apartment, as it was just me.
I looked back at Sienna’s worried face. I knew she wouldn’t give up on this idea without a fight. Reluctantly, I decided to agree to her plan in principle.
“If things carry on, then I will get in contact with Jayden. But please don’t say anything to him yet. I promise I will ask for help if I feel I need it.”
“Just make sure you do. I don’t want anything to happen to you, Abigail. All of the women downstairs, except for Amanda, have been through terrible situations. I don’t want you to be one of them too.”
I loved how Sienna cared for me and all of the women downstairs. I knew she loved them all and didn’t want anything to happen to them. I smiled over at her and just nodded my head.
“Come on, I have a hen party to celebrate.”
Checking on Ben, we both headed downstairs to enjoy the rest of our evening.
