“Well, you have that down to a tee already, so you don’t have to worry too much.”

“Nathan!”

There was the old Nathan back. The sarcastic, funny guy that everyone seemed to love. I was glad. He and Kelsey had been through so much the past couple of months. I was just happy I was able to get them both back together, twice. Now, with them being engaged to be married, life was good for them, and I was happy for them. I truly was. But it somehow didn’t make me feel any better inside.

“I see you’re back, Nath.”

“Like to make you feel at home. But come on, Kye. You know there is someone out there for you. What about that woman from Sienna and Jayden’s wedding? I saw you watching her all evening. Why didn’t you go over and speak to her?”

Fuck, if he wasn’t observant. Trust him to notice that.

“What was the point? You saw her, Nath. She was far out of my league. And every guy that went over to her, she pushed away. I wouldn’t have even gotten within a couple of feet of her before she told me to get lost.”

“Did you try? If you’d paid attention, every one of those guys was either already with someone and just trying it on, or were part of the elite set. Perhaps that’s not the guy she is looking for. Perhaps you were exactly the type of guy she wants. But you’ll never know. Unless you ask Sienna who she is?”

That was something I wasn’t going to do. There was no way I was going to let her know I was interested in one of her friends. She had already tried to match me up with her BFF, Amanda, now that she was single after divorcing her husband – thanks to King’s, I might add. I didn’t want her to have any inkling that she could perhaps hook me up with that beauty.

“Not going to happen, Nath. I’ve already had to put up with Sienna’s matchmaking skills with Amanda, remember? She’s a lovely woman, but I don’t want to spend the rest of my life looking after her two kids when her ex-husband is off shagging everything that wears a skirt. I haven’t got anything against single parents, but she just doesn’t do it for me. Look, it’s getting late and you must have far better things to be doing than checking up on me, like making me an uncle.”

I knew they both wanted kids and wouldn’t be bothered if it happened before they got married. And I just wanted to be the bad uncle that got them into trouble all the time.

“Kye, we care about you. Of course, we have time to make sure you’re fine. Especially as I know you still have half a bottle of bourbon there. Come on, Nath. We’re going—”

“You aren’t going to do a thing, Kels, except take Nathan to bed. I’ll be fine. I won’t drink any more tonight, I promise. If you are worried about me, call me in the morning, and if I don’t answer, I give you permission to kick my hungover arse out of bed. Okay?”

“Kye.”

“No, Kels. No more arguments. I will speak to you in the morning. Nathan, take your woman to bed.”

Before either of them could argue, I hung up, not before hearing Nathan chuckle at the other end. Kelsey was right, though. I shouldn’t have been relying on the bottle to get me through the night. I needed to get out there and at least get laid. There didn’t need to be any strings, just a good evening had by both of us. But that wasn’t going to be tonight – or this weekend, in fact.

Getting up from the sofa, I picked up the bottle and placed it back in the cupboard. I wasn’t going to finish that tonight, and I wanted to be awake before Kelsey called in the morning, which I knew she would. Turning off all the lights, I headed into my bedroom. One benefit of living alone was I could go to bed without having to shower. I could do that in the morning to wake me up.

Climbing into bed, I allowed my thoughts to go to Sienna’s friend again. I imagined what it would feel like to have her next to me, to touch her beautiful body and flawless skin. I closed my eyes with those thoughts, and before I knew it, sleep had taken over my body.
