“I need to ask you something before I explain what happened, Gil.”
He slid his hands into his pockets.
“Go ahead.”
“Father said you were the one who told him about my relationship with Ari after Enzo spoke to you about it. Is that true?”
Gil frowned and looked over at our brother.
“No. I didn’t say a word toPapá. Why would I? Who you date is none of my business.”
“Then how did he find out?”
My brother looked up at the corner of the room.
“The cameras.”
Enzo’s face fell, and he jumped up, stabbing a finger in Gil’s direction.
“What the fuck?Papáhas the place covered? Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Didn’t seem relevant.”
Enzo rolled his eyes and paced away.
“Oh well, it might not be a big deal to you since you don’t live here, but you failed to tell me my privacy was being invaded.”
Gil shrugged.
“You never asked.”
I put a hand up to stop Enzo from giving Gil any further shit. We didn’t have time for it.
“You two can discuss that later. Where is the footage kept, Gil?”
“On his computer,” my brother said, levelling his gaze back on me.
Leaving Ari by the fireplace, I made my way over to the door and poked my head out.
“Arlo!”
He walked out of the office, placing his hand over the speaker of his phone.
“Yes, boss?”
“Gennaro has cameras around the house. I need you to wipe the footage of what I did and keep the rest. We may need to see what he’s been up to. And get the men to take all the cameras down. I don’t want anyone else knowing about them.”
“No problem.”
He strolled back into the office, allowing me to retreat back to the fireplace. Ari took hold of my hand again, grounding me in the moment. Her quiet support was all I needed to get through this.
“Now that’s sorted, we can talk about why our father is dead.”
“You better fucking tell us why you did it,” Enzo put in, looking increasingly pissed off.
I almost shook my head but decided I was better off just giving it to them straight.
“Would you rather I let him shoot me? That’s what would have happened. He wanted me dead for choosing to be with Arianna. I was not about to let him take my life nor hers.”
