Thankfully, they arrived at Avery’s place safely. The sheriff told Avery that Drew would call and let her know when it was safe to return to work. He estimated it would be a day or two.

Avery did not look happy, but she’d do as the sheriff asked. The trip to the loft from Avery’s was short. “Will you call if you arrest Daryl Dragman?” she asked.

“Most definitely.”

After she thanked him for driving her, Blair went inside the warehouse. Two men she didn’t recognize were there working on some piece of equipment. When neither one seemed to pay her any mind, it helped to calm her. She rushed upstairs not sure what condition Jeff really was in. Zane might have downplayed it so that she wouldn’t worry.

Since she had her own key, she opened the door. “Zane?”

“In the kitchen,” he called out.

Blair walked in and studied him, but he seemed to be in excellent health. “How are you doing?”

He set down the knife he was using to cut up some cheese and lifted his T-shirt. Blair gasped at the large angry gash across his abdomen.

“Trust me, it’s much better than it was after the fight. In a few hours, I’ll be as good as new.”

She hoped he was telling the truth. “And Jeff?”

Zane’s lips pressed together. “He’s in the spare bedroom. He’s in his wolf form to help him heal faster.”

“Can I go in and see him?” she asked.

“Sure. He needs to get up anyway.”

Blair set down her purse on the kitchen island and slipped off her sweater before entering the second bedroom. The room was empty meaning Jeff must be in the bathroom. The door sat ajar, so she pushed it open. Where was he? Then she spotted him on the shower floor, seemingly asleep. The water under him was tinged pink with blood, and her heart broke.

She tiptoed closer and slowly opened the glass shower door. Jeff was such a beautiful wolf. Even though Zane said Jeff should get up, there was nothing better than sleep to heal a person.

What felt like an electric spark shot straight to Jeff’s heart, waking him up. When he opened his eyes, he had to blink a few times. He swore Blair was sitting outside the shower watching him. When she leaned closer, he realized it was Blair.

Crap. He hadn’t wanted her to see him like this, but at least she wasn’t freaking out. Jeff quickly shifted. While the transformation was better than the first time, it still hurt.

“Hi,” he said, hoping she wasn’t a figment of his imagination.

She grinned. “You’re naked. And you have an erection.”

“That happens when I’ve been sleeping. Give me a sec to rinse off.” His stomach had blood streaks on it. Thankfully, the large gashes seemed to have mostly healed.

He ran warm water over his body and washed off the residue. Then he stepped out of the shower and grabbed a towel. He loved how Blair’s gaze followed his every move.

“Does it hurt?” she asked.

“I won’t lie. I was in pretty bad shape after the fight, but you should have seen the other three. At least I walked out of there.”

“Zane said you’ll heal completely.”

“I always have, and I imagine this time will be no different.” Jeff finished using the towel and hung it up. “I have a spare set of clothes in the master closet.”

“You should bring more of your stuff over. You two could spend the night here.”

He smiled, working hard not to have his fangs appear. It wasn’t a good look. “I will.”

Once he changed, he and Blair returned to the kitchen.

“Your dad called,” Zane told him.
