“What did he say?”
“Apparently, when Ethan, Zach, and Mason learned what we found at Dragman’s, they went there to ensure Dragman didn’t destroy the evidence before your uncle could get a search warrant,” Zane said.
“Who is Zach? I know Ethan was the one who towed my car, and Mason is the private investigator, but you’ve never mentioned Zach.”
“I’ll have to draw you a family tree,” Jeff said. “I have a lot of cousins. Zach is one of Adam’s sons.”
“I’d like that drawing but aren’t they afraid they might get into another fight if they go to Daryl’s place?”
Jeff shook his head. “Daryl and his men are pretty beaten up. They wouldn’t go against three fresh wolves.”
“I hope they get there in time. If I were Daryl, I would destroy the evidence the first chance I could,” she said.
Jeff had worried about that. “Let’s hope Daryl isn’t that smart.” Jeff’s phone pinged. “It’s a message from Uncle Adam. He has the search warrant.”
“Awesome,” Zane said.
“If he finds the panel, is that good enough to arrest Daryl?” she asked.
“I believe so,” Jeff told her.
“What about those other men?” she asked.
“Unless we can pin some other crime on them, they’ll go free.”
“But they fought you,” she said.
Jeff loved how she was trying to defend him. “Zane and I were trespassing. They had every right to do what they did.”
“Oh.”
“Is anyone hungry?” Zane asked.
“Starving,” Jeff said. “Healing takes a lot of energy.”
“I’ll whip up some bacon and eggs.” Zane turned to her. “That’s the extent of my culinary skills.”
Blair smiled. “It sounds wonderful, though you should add spaghetti and meatballs to your list.”
He smiled. “Go sit with Jeff. I’ll be done in a jiff.”
No sooner had Jeff sat down when his cell rang. “It’s Dad again.” He swiped the phone. “Hi, I’m fine. I was recuperating when you called before.”
“I’m glad to hear it. Mind if I stop over? I want to discuss something that Mason, Zach, and Ethan learned on their trip to Dragman’s farm.”
“What is it?”
“I’ll explain when I get there.”
“Sure. See you soon.” He disconnected. “Dad said that my brother and two cousins who went to Dragmans to make sure he didn’t dispose of the evidence, learned something.”
“What was it?” she asked.
“Dad didn’t say, but he’s on his way now.”
“Do you think he might eat with us?” Zane asked. “I can add more eggs.”
“I doubt it. Knowing my father, he really just wants a brainstorming session. Just because we know who ran Blair off the road, the Hensley burglary is still unsolved,” Jeff said. "For now, I'll assume Dragman and his buddies trashed the model home."
