“And I assume everyone I met so far lives here?”

I nod. “It’s called a pack. Imagine it like a whole little town and a big family. Shifter packs have strict hierarchies,” I continue. “A werewolf pack is not so much different to an actual wolf pack, well, obviously, we are bigger in numbers.”

“Your pack is called Emerald Moon?” she asks curiously. “I saw it on one of the videos.”

Wow, she is sharp. “Yes.”

“And your dad, the”—she makes quotation marks with her fingers and glares at me—“hotel manager is in fact…”

“The alpha,” I explain. “Henry and I are his heirs and will inherit the alpha rank in a few years and lead this pack.” I pause. “Werewolf shifters that live in a pack are very much in tune with their wolf side. Our wolves have their own spirit, their own voice, their own character. We are two souls in one body, or rather two halves of a soul.”

“Wait a moment.” She stares at me before she pokes my head. “There is a whole other person in there.” She pauses. “I sometimes hear a voice too…” Her eyes cloud over in worry. “I thought I was going crazy… but could there be more to it?”

“I’m not sure… something for sure has to be there,” I say. “I will talk to my father, and he can research a bit. This is a wild guess, but I assume your grandmother…” I pause, not sure how to continue.

“Yeah,” Dalila mutters. “She told me stories…” Again, she makes quotation marks. “While, in fact, she educated me on this whole other world she probably was part of.”

I look at her in awe. “I’m not going to lie, Dalila. You’re taking this exceptionally well. I thought you would be terrified and run… and I would need to court you for months and gain your trust in what I am.”

“I could still run and make you court me,” she says with a grin. When I make puppy eyes at her, she chuckles. “Okay, or you answer all my questions, and I will stay. Just don’t use the mate bond to manipulate me.”

My heart skips a bit in joy, and I nod. “I got it.”

*DALILA*

Tony told me he is surprised that I am taking it so well, and to be honest, I’m surprised, too. However, in a way, it feels like a part that was lost to me suddenly returned. A fitting piece of a missing puzzle is suddenly here, and I feel complete.

Still confused but complete.

And instead of feeling terrified, I just find myself feeling calm.

This is it, the answer to every question I had growing up. Things I remember dreaming of that felt too real to be a dream. Things my mother shoved aside nervously, telling me it was just my vivid imagination.

A lot of people hear a voice, Dalila, she even said once.

The fuck they do! Most people might talk to themselves, but their brain certainly doesn’t answer. I love my mom, and I strongly believe she had her reasons for not telling me anything. Her death now makes a lot more sense, too, and…

I swallow. “Tony,” I mutter. He has spent hours with me answering questions about ranks, packs, his life, the difference between werewolves and lycans, other shifters, mates, and alike. “Do you think my mom was murdered?”

He looks at his fingers, shifting around a bit.

I take his hand. “There is just one thing I truly ask from you,” I tell him. “Don’t lie to me. Even if you feel it might protect me, or if you think it’s too much for me, don’t lie to me.”

“It’s a possibility,” he says. “You said she was killed by a hoard of animals. Seeing how your family most likely had roots in the shifter world or in the supernatural world, I’d say the chances are high that it wasn’t an accident.”

He looks at me, his eyebrows furrowed and his eyes clouded with worry. I swallow thickly at his words. “Why would someone kill my mom?” I mutter.

He pulls me into his arms. “Maybe that’s the reason she never told you about your heritage. I will make sure we research her death properly and find out the truth.”

“Does this also mean you will dig into my life and see what I am?” I ask hopefully. I have always felt out of place, but now that a whole new world is open to me, I feel like I can get answers.

“Of course.”

Silence falls upon us again. “Remember, I told you about that vampire party I went to?”

He nods.

“It was real. Am I right?”
