“I’mtotallyspent,”oneof my warriors groans.
We just had an emergency exercise and practiced for our reaction to an actual attack. It takes hours, and these exercises are draining as fuck, but they’re necessary for our safety. I’m proud to admit that our warriors did well, though.
Anthony seems to think the same. “Good work, everyone.” He beams proudly. “This was our best exercise so far.”
The warriors who are sitting around, gasping for their breath and checking their bruises, sit up a bit straighter, pride on their faces.
“He’s right,” I say shortly before searching for something in my bag.
Anthony approaches me. “Wow, that was heartfelt,” he jokes. “Let loose sometimes, Henry.”
“You are loose enough for the both of us,” I retort.
As usual, my twin doesn’t take my words, and the unintended double meaning behind them, as an insult. He even laughs a bit. “You’re the only one allowed to insult me like that.” He smirks.
“If anyone else would say this to you, they would have my fist in their stupid face,” I growl.
Anthony chuckles. “Or mine. I can very much defend myself, brother.”
He is right. Tony and I are identical twins, and as such, we are almost equally powerful. Our gifts differ, so do our strengths, but it’s impossible to tell who would be better or stronger. It’s very unusual for werewolf twins or lycan twins to be that way, and it’s the reason we both will share the alpha position one day. There is also zero animosity between us, no rivalry at all. We couldn’t even fight each other if we wanted to.
Dad tried that once, just to see how we’d do in a serious fight, but our souls are so connected that the fight hurt us mentally, so they had to stop us midway. It was then that he decided that we’ll both be alphas.
I rummage in my bag for a bit longer before finding my little box with protein bars. “Here,” I say shortly while turning to some of my particularly tired warriors. I throw a protein bar to each of them and point at their bottles of water. “Drink something,” I command, “or you’ll dehydrate.”
“Yes, mom,” Serenade, our future beta, says in amusement while she takes the bar from my hands. Our skins touch for a moment, and I fight back the urge to flinch at the contact. My skin is more sensitive than usual. Normally, it’s just my ears that are sensitive, but sometimes I can’t bear the feeling of being touched.
The other men chuckle at her stupid comment, and I narrow my eyes at her to a glare. She just ignores me and instead takes a sip from her water bottle. Our first choice as beta was originally our best friend Matthew, but he had a mental breakdown and then found his mate in a different pack, where he can now heal and grow.
He took the chance to stay with his mate, and Tony and I fully support him. Serenade is a kickass second choice, though. Only Matthew was stronger than her.
“You heard your future alpha.” Tony steps to my side. “Eat your protein bars, drink something, regain your strength, or he will make you stand in a corner.”
I narrow my eyes at him while Serenade snorts into her water bottle.
Tony just smirks. “You thought I wouldn’t get back at you for that stupid comment?”
I sigh. “Are we even now?”
“Only when you go to the meeting today,” he looks at me with his puppy eyes.
“Why?” I ask, annoyed.
“I have an… appointment,” he says. He smiles at me, his perfect shit-eating smile; the one I know is as fake as the boobs of the girl I saw him with last week. He toned down his affairs recently, though he is still a player.
“If it were a date, you would tell me.” I figure. So, I assume since you want to hide it from me,I switch to the mind link. What… is it a convention? A single release?
Ticket sales start for the comic con,he admits.
You’re fucking kidding me!
No, they will have a whole MCU segment this time, and actors are coming. Rumor has it that RDJ will appear. And you know how much of a Tony Stark fan I am! We have the same name. He is my spirit animal. That one time when he and Cap—
Please don’t,I beg him. Once he slips into his fanboy tendencies, he can go on and on forever.
I will do the course for the teenage warriors next Saturday,he promises. You hate those.
He is right. My social skills suck, and Tony is better with the teens. It’s a whole ass day on top of that, while it’s just a two-hour meeting today. But it’s not the only reason that makes me agree. Sometimes, and I’m not even sure if I’m just imagining things or not, there is something in his eyes. A hint of sorrow and hurt. Our bond is strong, and I should feel it as his twin if something is off, but I don’t.
