I shake my head. “I didn’t notice.”

“What?”

“How deep in her mind I was.” I feel a headache approaching again as I try to sort through my thoughts.

Harmony looks at me, her gaze softening. “You need to rest, and then you can tell us everything.”

I pull her into my arms as I lie down again. “Are you staying with me?”

“Yes.” She kisses my chest while I let my hand glide through her dark blonde hair. “It’s night, anyway. Alpha Elden said he expects us for breakfast and then for a meeting, but definitely not earlier.”

Awesome, this will result in getting reprimanded by my uncle for using my gift recklessly. Maybe it’s weird for me to call him uncle, but we are related in some way. We just aren’t sure how exactly. I couldn’t care less now, though. Too tired. Resting in her arms and surrounded by the warmth and the safety of the mate bond, I feel myself drifting to sleep, this time without being haunted by Colton, but instead dreaming of weird Egyptian deities and cloaked men haunting a woman and of a person with the head of a cat.

The next morning, I feel like a car hit me. My whole body aches, and I barely make it out of bed. Harmony seems to be more and more worried. “Maybe you should rest,” she mutters as she sits down at the edge of the bed and helps me up a bit. She is already dressed in light blue jeans and a red tank top, looking breathtaking as usual. Her beauty is effortless, as Leila calls it, and natural. Whatever that means. But she impressed Leila, and my sister isn’t impressed by a lot of people.

“No,” I shake my head. “I need to attend this meeting.” Before she can argue, I put my finger on her lips. “Not because I’m being difficult or stubborn, but because I need to tell them what I saw, or I might go insane.”

“Okay,” she sighs. “Let me help you then.”

With Harmony’s help, I make it to the bathroom and take a warm shower. I wish I had the strength to devour this beautiful woman, but my body feels drained.I can’t even think about making love to my stunning mate,I think begrudgingly as I step out of the shower and dry my body. She smiles as if she reads my thoughts. “Regain your strength,” she whispers, tilting her head a bit so that I can see my mark on her neck. “And I might ride your perfect dick tonight.”

“It’s a date then,” I smile, pulling her into a kiss.

When our kiss gets more passionate, she pulls away with a grin. “Tonight, Casanova, not now.”

I growl at her defiance, loving the game. I will make sure to make it worth it tonight. For now, she is, unfortunately, right. Uncle Elden expects us, and I don’t want to disappoint him after having him worried because of the little stunt I pulled.

The meeting and the breakfast are both in one, I soon realize. Harmony leads me to the private dining room of the alpha and luna, where Uncle Elden and Aunt Flora already expect us. The rest of the group and Cassiopeia are here too, and a man with wild long hair. He looks a bit rugged and messy, but he is clearly an alpha, and his eyes and face are the spitting image of Anthony and Henry.

He also looks pissed, but not at me. He has his eyes narrowed while he glares at his sons.

That’s Alpha Jace,Harmony links me.Henry and Anthony’s father.

Alpha Jace crosses his arms in front of his chest. “You snuck into a hospital? Care to explain?”

“It was necessary,” Henry says, much to my surprise. He sounds steady and firm, clearly defending their actions.

“He’s right,” Anthony agrees, equally as serious. “The benefits easily outweighed the risk, and I would do it again anytime.”

“It was our only lead, and involving more people would have been dangerous,” Henry adds.

“Besides, I already had a backup plan about how to get out of there again,” Tony adds. “We only called for help because we were scared Arman might be severely hurt. That’s all. Other than that, I don’t think we went wrong anywhere.”

Uncle Elden raises one of his brows and exchanges a look with Jace. “Well, then,” Jace lets his arms drop down but doesn’t lower his hard gaze. “I think Elden and I deserve an explanation, though… from everyone.”

Henry looks a bit surprised that his father just dropped the subject about the hospital like that. He might not understand it yet, but he and his brother just took responsibility for their actions like a real alpha would. Tony tosses him a glance now, his eyes glossing over as he links him. Henry’s eyes widen. “Shoot, I am such a dunce!”

His father turns his attention back to him and blinks. “What’s that now?”

Henry doesn’t answer and instead grabs Elodie’s hand, pulling her forward. “This is my mate, Dad, Elodie. You know her already, but I wanted to introduce her officially. Sorry for it being in such a dramatic situation.”

Alpha Jace’s eyes soften tremendously. “Elodie,” he calls out, his voice having lost its edge completely. He approaches her, pulling her into a hug. “Welcome to the family!”

“Thank you,” Elodie stutters, looking a bit flustered. “I’m very happy about being mated to Henry.” She smiles at Henry as she takes his hand.

Jace smiles before tossing a half-assed glare at his son. “I’m still mad,” he mutters.

“Of course.” Henry smiles knowingly and puts his arm around his mate.
