“Well, I know you are allies with my great-granddaughter, so I decided to help,” she says with a teasing wink.

“Who would that be?” Tony asks curiously.

“Celine Anderson,” Jade says while leading us through the apartment. There are several rooms with closed doors, and I can see other women… witches… walking around and disappearing into said rooms.

“Wait, Alpha Celine?” I ask in surprise.

She turns her head slightly, smiling instead of giving me an answer.

Celine is the alpha of one of our allied packs. I don’t know her well, but I know that Prince Eric befriended her, and Elise and Elodie did, too. Her mate is one of the sons of one of our other allied alphas, of Alpha Elden, or Uncle Elden, as Tony and I call him. He and Dad are best friends, so are Mom and Aunt Flora. We basically grew up together with his children. Finn happens to be one of them, too. Prince Eric is Elden’s nephew and, hence, a cousin of Celine’s mate.

Talk about complicated relationships.

Celine is said to be a kickass warrior with very special gifts and… a quarter witch. Well, it seems like Jade is the reason for her witch genes.

Tony’s thoughts seem to go in a similar direction because he just stares at me and raises his brows.

There is no time to discuss anything, though, as Jade leads us to her office, where another surprise is waiting for us in the form of a bulky, tall werewolf covered in tattoos. He has grown his hair a bit now; he used to keep it shaved before. “Vincent!?” Tony exclaims.

“Hey, boys.” He grins brightly. Despite his tough exterior, he is a genuinely nice guy. He is also Uncle Elden’s beta.

“What are you doing here?” I ask in surprise.

“Oh, I’m Jade’s mate,” he says as if it’s the most normal thing to say.

Tony’s mouth drops open. “You’re mated to an ancient witch?”

“Cool, huh?” He smirks, taking Jade’s hand and placing a kiss on it.

“Cool doesn’t even remotely describe it,” Tony mutters.

“I’m here for backup,” he explains. “Jade thinks you might need me eventually.”

“More and more people are getting involved,” Elodie says in worry.

“That’s inevitable, my child,” Jade tells her. “That’s why it’s important to find those that are trustworthy. And Vincent is absolutely trustworthy.”

“I think Marcel is, too,” I point out to the others.

“Yes, he is. But you will need yet another person, too,” she says while sitting down. “But more about that later. First, tell me everything you’ve seen. If the stars are moving, it’s always a bad sign.”

Elodie and Elise seem to be acquainted with Jade already and know to trust her because they don’t hesitate to tell her of their findings. It seems like the most prominent solar systems being affected were Centauri, Canis Major, which Sirius belongs to, Lupus, and Leo.

“Lupus and Leo?” I turn to look at Elodie.

“We heard about it today,” she explains. “Sorry, I forgot to mention it.”

“That’s not the issue,” I tilt my head. “It’s just… weird?”

“Why?” Tony wants to know.

“So much symbolism,” I mutter.

“He is right,” Jade agrees, frowning slightly. “Now, Alpha Centauri is very easy to spot, so we could dismiss it as being chosen to get our attention.” She pauses. “But the others… Lupus means wolf. If a higher power is at force, it would be too much of a coincidence that, out of all, one constellation chosen represents wolves.”

“And the others?” Elise wants to know. “Doesn’t Sirius stand for dog?”

“Sirius is tricky…” Jade muses. “It’s an interesting choice, not because it’s easy to spot, but…”
