“But?” Tony asks curiously.

“Did you know that in ancient Egypt, the star Sirius, also known as the dog star Sothis, was connected to Isis, one of the most powerful goddesses of her time?” She pauses. “Before Isis, there were other deities and goddesses, such as Raet-Tawy, the female counterpart to Ra, who was later replaced by Isis. To just name one of them. Most of them have one thing in common. Do you know what?”

“I don’t understand…” Elise mutters. “And I have no idea.”

“Wasn’t Raet-Tawy known as the lady of the sky and a solar deity?” I frown, trying to remember what I’ve read about Egyptian mythology. I don’t know much about it, and it’s always been extremely confusing to understand the multiple myths and legends surrounding these deities. “And Isis was first known as a solar deity… and later as a lunar one. Her mother was Nut, the goddess of the sky, stars, and cosmos. In one way or another, they are all connected to the sky and either the sun or moon.” I paused. “Selene, our goddess, is a lunar deity, too.”

Jade nods. “Don’t get too stuck on the symbolism and mythology, though. Ancient myths are complicated and have often changed throughout the years. It’s better to approach it with an open mind while being aware that there are loose connections.”

Vincent, who has up to now just listened to us, shakes his head in confusion. “Sorry, this is giving me a headache. Are we getting signals from aliens or deities?”

“It could have many meanings,” Jade explains. “It could be a sign of black magic, which would momentarily alter our reality. It could also be the sign of a deity, it could mean a possible threat coming, it could also mean a plea for help.”

“And Leo?” Elodie asks. “What about the Leo constellation?”

“You know, I just had a splendid idea,” Jade says without answering Elodie’s question and smiles at us in a way that sends chills down my spine. Vincent seems to find her smile endearing, but I find her creepy as fuck.

“And what kind of idea?” Elodie asks, similarly skeptical. Aw, my woman and I share the same sentiment!

“You said something about wanting to include this young warrior, Marcel. A good idea, if I may say so.” Jade tilts her head. “An even better idea would be to also invite that young lycan to your quest. I think you know him. Arman is his name, if I remember correctly.”

Arman!? He was one of the wolves of the pack we freed a few months ago. He wasn’t born there, but his parent’s ship wrecked, and he and his sister were the only survivors. We later found out that he is a lycan, and once we freed the pack, he and his sister took the opportunity to leave and reconnect with their roots. There is not much known about their heritage and former pack. It’s all a huge mystery, which is why they work closely together with Uncle Elden and the Council.

“And then”—Jade scribbles something down on a note—“you can go to this address.”

Elodie takes the note and stares at it. “That’s all?” she asks plainly.

“We thought you would be able to tell us a bit more,” I agree.

Tony glares at me while Elise elbows her sister. “We are very thankful for your time, Jade,” Elise says.

“Yes.” Tony nods. “We might have expected something else, but at least we have a few leads now, thank you.”

She snorts. “Good thing these two”—she points at Elodie and I—“have you as their other halves.”

I try not to roll my eyes at her words. I know she is right, but I don’t need to acknowledge it all the time. Before we can get up and leave, though, she takes Tony’s hand. She is silent for a while, looking at him intensely… but also unusually gently. “It was not your fault,” she tells him.

I frown while the girls exchange a surprised look. What shocks me more is the sad expression on Tony’s face, though.

“Keep your mind and heart open,” she says with a gentle smile.

“What for?” he asks, sounding hopeless.

“You will never know until you take the risk.”

Whenwearedownstairsagain and walk to our car, Jade’s words still ring in my mind—everything she said. There is all this confusing information about all those deities and the hidden meaning behind the disappearing stars, which I truly need to research more about. I’ve some knowledge about the solar system and also about Egyptian mythology, but definitely not enough that I can rely on it heavily. It’s not the only thing bothering me, though… There are also Jade’s words about my brother.

While Elodie steps aside to call Alpha Celine and ask for her okay to meet with Arman and Marcel, I can’t help but wonder what Jade told Tony. The meaning behind her words. It’s obvious that he understood what she was saying, but I have no clue.

What hurt him so badly? I still think it has to be his mate who rejected him. And I still need her name and address so that I can silently murder her. Very silently. I promise I will be stealthy.

Maybe murdering her goes too far.Arlo’s voice of reason reaches me.
